I agree with you totally,I rarely blame refs for the whole **** up but when Delap has 4 bookable fouls in the first 20 mins, and is only spoken to on the 5th foul...that's weak reffing and sets a precedent to players.Yes we lost and I'd hoped we'd rise above it but they knew they could be nasty pricks and likely get away with it.
Seri and Woods and Tufan are the all the same sort of players. Good with the ball, absolutely sh1te without it. We needed two new full backs, we still do. Random recruitment, no bite in the middle. Oh and put McLoughlin back in, he was one of the top 5 players last year.
If I was Shota I wouldn't worry about playing a 4 or 5 at the back, but concentrate on avoiding receiving a P45.
The original plan was to loan out Smith, but once injuries bit and he got a goal, it wasn't really on the cards. Motherwell want him, as did Hatayspor in Turkey and a few League One clubs, but injury forced our hand. We'd have let Doc and Cannon go too, but again injuries/absences forced that out. I think that spare space will be taken by a defender or a midfielder, I can't see us bringing another striker in unless something happens to Oscar.
The first and second goals came from soft free kicks given around our box. In between he booked Seri for his first foul. I thought the ref had an awful first half. But that apart it was like watching a dads v lads match, With the footballing talent he has available Shota shouldn't be putting team's out that get over run and bulied so easily. The new owner 'feel good factor' will soon wear off it this is allowed to continue.
Our transfer business this summer looks like it was done by someone playing Football Manager or career mode on FIFA. Sign a lot of technically-gifted players with good CVs and expect them to piss the league. Reminds me of the countless debates about how to fit Scholes, Lampard and Gerrard together in the England midfield and how the ‘Golden Generation’ should’ve won the World Cup based on how good the individual players were. Never gonna work.
We would not have let Doc go cannon yes but Doc has been thought to be needed and was expected to figure barring his injury, don't know where you heard we would have let him go.
That was absolute dog ****e. It was as bad as anything we saw under McCann last season - abysmal at both ends of the pitch. No idea how to break teams down going forward and giving away far too many soft free kicks and soft goals at the back. For me having Seri and Tufan in the starting 11 is a luxury we cannot afford at the moment. We have to tighten up at the back as the number of goals we are conceding is alarming. For Swansea I would go Baxter Coyle Greaves McCloughlin Jones Elder Woods Slater Tufan Oscar Smith We need to scratch out a couple of results somehow
What folk don't seem to realise also, if Traore, Ali, Benji come back before the December fixtures then we'll probably just register one of those - but I do think we need a ****house ball winner in midfield - whether he's 5ft2 or 6ft4 - but a bit or aereal ability would always be a bonus.
Woods and Slater behind Tufan is the same issue tonight except Woods isn’t half as good as Seri on the ball, and isn’t even an improvement off the ball. Really bizarre signing if you ask me because he isn’t even the type of midfielder we’re lacking and should be looking for.
If the right offer came in, he would have gone. He is behind Seri, Tufan, Woods, Slater and now Pelkas. He's got to fight with Simons for that final berth and we don't know how good/bad he'll be. I rate him, he wasn't deemed surplus to requirements but I don't think he'd still be here if a decent offer came in.
Allahyar doesn't need registering and given that Traore hasn't kicked a ball in anger for some time, I would have thought Tetteh would be the one if we could. But I think you can only register players during a specific window, free transfers can be registered any time but others have to wait until the transfer widow reopens.
I hope Shota uses this as a reason to make some changes, I think the good start has meant we’ve got stuck in certain systems and I’m not sure it’s the best balance. Coyle and Elder as the creativity out wide isn’t working in my opinion. He seems to agree that Smith and Oscar up front together doesn’t seem to create much. My preference would be to go back to a back 4 and put wingers in, but I could see the merit in putting another midfielder in too.
No he was never going to go interest was made in him but the door was firmly closed and the club from Scotland was told he was not available.
He'll be here til Jan regardless, and was registered unlike Cannon. He'll get his chance. After that it's down to him.
But if he can tackle without giving stupid free kicks away it would be a start. Maybe there's a better solution - I just know we've got to try something to stop letting so many goals in
I was just told he would be allowed to go if the right offer came in (and if the right players came in as at the time we hadn't signed Pelkas, Vale or Simons), as opposed to somebody like Slater who was definitely not going anywhere.
Maybe the squad place was left incase one of the injured recovers in time (Tetteh, Traore, Fleming, Sinik, ....). Meaning for example Sinik is close but they didn't want to name him until he's proved he's going to be ok? Maybe now there's a bigger dilemna that's developed! Do they keep that spare squad place for someone (likely Sinik) returning, or do they now use it for a further needed signing? We look short of: - a real midfield presence (as others have said, a Mk2 Smallwood upgrade with go-faster stripes). We have some real quality in midfield when up to speed, but the balance seems way off. Fanciful to think Simons will be the solution, likewise Jones, although he might well do a better job for now. - a quality CB. I suspect Shota & Acun have over-estimated how good Greaves, Fig & Jones are. It's embarrassing how they are getting done recently. I'd actually bring McL back at the moment, but the reality is we need better. - a striker, even more so now that Allayhar and Tetteh are out of it. Smith is nowhere near good enough, so all we really have is Oscar. Scary situation to now be in. - pace! We are now back to square one, or even -1. We are so badly lacking in terms of pace, right across the field. Should be interesting to see how Shota reacts, and what he comes up with for Saturday's game.
