Just tuned in to watch my local La Liga team Elche v Atletico Bilbao. By the time I tuned in (21st minute) they were already 0-2 down (OG and a Pen) and now 0-3. Were we, at some time linked to Nico Williams, or was he on someone’s wish list? He scored the third, cutting in from the right wing and hitting a left foot shot into the roof of the net. Tighter defending would have prevented him getting a shot away, as his touch going past the FB was quite heavy yet he was still able to get to the ball before being closed down. The way Elche have started the season it looks like I will need to watch them this season if I want to see a top flight game here. This is game 5, GD -11, Pts 1
Close to 0-4. Goal disallowed for a player in the keeper’s eye line offside, but created by a pull back by Nico Williams having left the FB for dead with his pace. And now it is 0-4. The assist was a wayward defensive header
It’s the hope that kills, not that there was any hope. Could easily have been a 0-9 at one point. Ended 1-4. Nico Williams MOTM and came off after about 1 hour. If we haven’t been linked with him, he’s certainly worth a look, but possibly beyond our price? Two incidents, during the game, that caught my eye. At one point a Bilbao player had an arm thrust across him, that accidentally brushed his face and a little later there was a clash of heads in the Elche box. NONE OF THE PLAYERS DROPPED TO THE GROUND AS IF SHOT. It was quite refreshing to see players just give their face/head a rub and just get on with it. I suppose it’s a sad sign of the times that this struck a chord with me, having got so used to those bastards that see overreacting/cheating as the norm.
Christopher Atherton: Glenavon teenager breaks record as UK's youngest senior footballer. Only 13 years old.
Hoping we have scouted the boy. The likes of Bazunu and Lavia are good players but getting on a bit now.
