Agyemang Shocked at Being Excluded from 25 Ben Kosky/London 24 QPR strikerâs âshockâ at being left out of squad QPR outcast Patrick Agyemang admits it came as âa big shockâ when he was omitted from Rangersâ 25-man squad earlier this season.Agyemang, who is currently on a monthâs loan at Millwall, featured in two of the Rsâ first three Premier League fixtures, only to be axed when the club submitted their list of 25 on September 1. And the 31-year-old striker, who is in the final year of his contract at Loftus Road, was astounded to receive no prior warning of his fate from Rangers manager Neil Warnock. âIâd played the last two games before the transfer window shut, so once the window had passed I thought I was going to be involved,â Agyemang told london24.com. âI wasnât told anything beforehand. Obviously the manager had a boost in the budget, he was able to bring in whoever he wanted and thatâs what happens in football, but itâs upsetting when it happens to you. âIt was a big shock and I was low on confidence because of the situation. Youâre just training for yourself, really, because you know no matter how hard you work you canât get into the team. âNow Iâve just got to get on with it and my loyaltyâs to Millwall at the moment. Iâve got to keep fit and try and make an impact â I canât really worry about QPR.â The Ghana international is one of Rangersâ longest-serving players â he joined them in a £350,000 move from Preston in January 2008, and immediately struck a purple patch with eight goals in six matches. But injuries and the frequent changes of manager hampered Agyemangâs efforts to hold down a regular place in the side and the majority of his 19 appearances last season came as a substitute. Now he is aiming for a new lease of life at the Den â although his arrival has coincided with a major improvement in Millwallâs form, with Darius Henderson and Jay Simpson both among the goals in their recent three-match winning run. The resurgent Lions followed up their 3-0 victory at Leicester with back-to-back home successes against Ipswich and Coventry to move clear of the Championship relegation zone. âBasically, just speaking to the manager, Kenny Jackett, made me keen to come down and Iâm enjoying it, even though I havenât played as much as I wanted to,â Agyemang added. âObviously I played with Jay at QPR and I used to play up front with Darius at Gillingham about seven years ago, so Iâve got a good relationship with those two. âWeâve got a good variety of strikers in the squad and competition for places, so that brings the standard up a bit. Every striker wants to get goals, but itâs also important to be part of a team that wants you.â http://www.london24.com/sport/championsh....squad_1_1115242
He's gone to Millwall, hasn't played and they've started winning and scoring goals for fun!It looks like the players have turned round to each other and said"**** me if he's here on loan things must be really bad, let's pull our socks up and start playing".As a shock tactic it was a masterstroke!
S'funny you mention faher christmas Pete cause I go a letter this morning from P Agyeman asking for a pair of new football boots...ones that will help him kick he ball in a straight line
Its worth noting that the article says he is one of our longest serving players and only here since 2008. WOW
I think you've underestimated Agyemang; not as a player - he's crap - but as a self-publicist/bullshitter/playa. He needs another contract, he needs to big himself up and what better way than to remind everyone he played premiership football this year? He and his agent are doing what they have to. Good luck to him, if only for the 'tear in the fabric of reality' that allowed him to score those goals at the start of his rangers career.
AGYEMANG SET TO DEPART? COMMENTS (0) 3 November 2011 MILLWALL LOOK unlikely to extend the loan deal of striker Patrick Agyemang after leaving him out of the squad that beat Coventry City. Josh McQuoid is now fully-fit while John Marquis and Shaun Batt are also closing on first-team returns, meaning the Lions may allow Agyemang to return to QPR when his loan expires after Saturday’s game at Blackpool. http://www.southwarknews.co.uk/00,news,24902,5227,00.htm
