I'm off all month before I start a new job in October so it doesn't affect me. Maybe I'll get one when Charlie gets his crown officially in church.
Coming in late on this discussion so may have missed some arguments. On FB a friend of mine was annoyed the football was cancelled and didn’t like being told how to mourn a person he didn’t like. I suggested that we were lucky to live in a monarchy that allowed us a choice of whether to mourn or not, respect or not a system we didn’t agree with. He is a strong socialist republican. As far as I am aware Socialist Republics tend to order the entire population to attend and show emotion at state funerals. They are enemies of the people if they don’t. Missing 90 minutes of football doesn’t seem too much of a burden. I respected the Queen because she had demonstrated a lifetime of service. I have much less respect for other royals because of their behaviour. The point is we are allowed to have different opinions, without resorting to abuse. Agree or disagree, won’t matter to anyone.
Now there is simply no reason to postpone the next round of PL fixtures, given none clash with the state funeral. The next round provides football with the opportunity to pay tribute to the late Queen through a minute's silence and the national anthem before kick off at each game.
You say that, but games could still fall by the wayside given the policing requirements - officers have already been called in from other counties - for that Monday and the need to rehearse and secure the venues in advance.
I have heard from an insider that one of the reasons this first round got postponed is that the football authorities didn’t think certain fans (IE anfield) would be respectful of the silence for the queen. I think they’re right in that assessment. Which gives them a reason to postpone this weekend too… but I hope not
Never have I wanted a dislike flag so, so much. You know I’m not a regular contributor; haven’t got the skill to argue (debate!) nor the fortitude on Saints, let alone these & other issues like politics, etc. Leave that to the usual suspects. Ps. and don’t assume it’s immediate to the above, could be but more much before.
And now I would Imagine that instead of QC ( Queens Council ) it will be. KC ? If anyone thought I was going to go on about music and nice weather , you’re wrong .
Hence my comment about North Korea. Although I would describe it as a dictatorship rather than republic. Such a scary, scary place.
Just watching the Queen's coffin being taken from Balmoral to Edinburgh. I'm quite surprised by the amount of people that have come out to watch the cortege as it passes through the villages towards Aberdeen. My impression before was that not many Scots thought much of the Queen but the numbers prove otherwise. Actually, I'm quite surprised at the respectful reaction to her death from around the world. Nice gestures I think.
She`s just passed the end of my street. I`m away on holiday at present, and I`m sorry I`ve missed a moment in history.
.... which reminds me of another historical moment. About half a mile away, Donald Bradman scored his last first class (whatever that is) century in 1948.
