If Hamilton is already taking a new engine and has to start at the back then he or anyone else doing the same should not be taking part in Qualifying.
But that would ruin the spectacle for the fans who have paid good money. That is why it is sometimes referred to as a 'Circus'.
Do the parts/engine replacements have to be announced before qualifying starts? Because when you have these drivers having to start at the back they could say you’re only taking part in Q1 and your fastest time decides where you start at the back behind the slow cars who haven’t taken parts
I personally think they might as well if they have time take 2 engines and full sets of parts in the one weekend They turn up with one amd the teams in theory have the capacity to change one overnight.
I'm not sure they are allowed to do that. I seem to remember a few years ago the teams were doing that as they could only go to the back once with penalty points. So FIA did something to stop it or at least make it a bad option. Can't remember what they did.
I'd Like to know how RBR are affording the extra engines, fully redesigning their chassis 3 times and getting under budget.
Engines are outside the cap I think. Not sure on RBR, but Merc have been making continual obvious changes at a rate none of the others seem to be able to avoid - it does seem odd that some teams seem to be able afford more than others who should also be at the cap.
Jumbled up grid today which is nice to see but I can’t see anyone really stopping Max pissballing through into P2 before the real battle with Charles. Alonso race pace was almost half a second better than Norris and I expect Fernando to take the two McLarens on his way to a fight for podium/4th place.
I wonder what howler Ferrari have saved up for their home Grand Prix... Set of wets at the first stop?
A pretty good example there of why grid penalties aren't actually entertaining. Even the Mercedes don't even attempt to fight Max as he breezes past.
