Well, I'm kind of annoyed, but in reality is works in our favour. It means that we get extra time to get ASM, Wilson, Bruno etc back, and West Ham away is a tough fixture, so now our decent run of games starts with Bournemouth at home. https://www.independent.co.uk/sport...led-sport-fixtures-this-weekend-b2163552.html
I'm not sure that I agree with this, respect could have been shown at the grounds whilst maintaining some semblance of modern life, it is also going to contract the schedules for games before the break for the World Cup if these games are to be played prior to that, it always seems rather archaic to me especially as we are not closing all the shops, pubs, garden centres, public transport and so on as a mark of respect. I see Tash's point but on the other side it now means that the players have to play this match with less recovery time from those matches to come with this game shoehorned into the schedule.
I think it's daft. The queen loved sport and was a 'get on with it' type so I don't think she would even agree we should postpone the weekend fixtures which everyone looks forward to. Plus I'm sure all the grounds would pay a great tribute to her. Would be a good celebration all across the country. They've cancelled the horse racing which is even more bizarre as obviously that was her favourite.
If the following week is also postponed there is the international break for two weeks after, which would be a months (3rd Sept - 1st Oct) break from league football. Either they will need to reschedule for after the int. break or go ahead with the games. While I personally agree they should be postponed I'm not sure how they then fit in the extra 2 league games around the League Cup and European games before the World Cup as every mid week date is taken up by the cup games for lots of teams unless they become midweek fixtures this week and next but that's not fair on fans who've taken time off, booked travel and accommodation - can they change all of that at such short notice? They'd need to find a way to slot these games in fairly for all as everyone is missing these games through not fault of their own but there are barely any free weeks, bar mid week games around the 3rd and 4th round FA cup games in early and late January where the fixture list is already congested but only if teams aren't into the 5th round and semi final of the League Cup but some will be in those rounds so is it fair? Past that in February European knockout stages starts and the LC Final then the latter rounds of the FA Cup are in March as is the next international break after the WC so realistically if you were to say everyone needed to play at the same time it is almost certain they will need to run at the end of the season and probably into June!
I'm not that unhappy from an NUFC point of view though, an extra week (at least) for the injured lads.
Yeah, said it for the last couple of days that the calendar was full, European comps finish around the 3rd on November, League Cup on the 8th and 10 day break for players playing in WC, won't be this year and probably slotted into free FA cup weekends which means you'll be punished for doing well in the cups with a backup of league games.
I think we should proritize the cups over the league this season, we are going to be mid table whatever happens really. If ever there was a season to go all out for the cups, this is it, as the next seasons we will really be pushing for a European place, and then after that, hopefully a title challenge. Mind win the FA Cup and we are in Europa anyway.
Who called it PL or FA? They should have played this weekend and called off next weekend for the funeral, now they have a tricky dilemma on their hands.
There'll be no games next weekend, heard that the Police will be needed and couldn't cover football etc as well, sounds logical.
That's what I've heard to - you think about the amount of extra officers needed in London over the next week or two, it's going to be enormous! From brining HRH down from Scotland, to the officers needed to safely allow the hundreds of thousands if not millions who'll likely try and attend her lying in state to pay last respects, the coronation of Charles III etc its going to be wild here in London over the next few weeks!
As a Newcastle fan, of course it works in our favour. Plus my son's not feeling great so a break is good. But, and it's a ****ing massive 'but', this is the most pathetically PC decision I've seen so far this year. It's so ****ing spineless and pathetic. The thing is, anybody who might be upset by football going ahead - i.e. the snowflake **** generation - doesn't matter. They're irrelevant, in general, but specifically with regards football. They don't go to games, they don't follow the sport, so the only ****ers likely to be offended are such a tiny, insignificant minority it simply wouldn't matter. I'm so sick of this country. It's run by spineless aristocracy completely out of touch with reality, so mortified they might offend someone they never make a sensible decision. What would possibly have been better or more fitting than the National Anthem belting out across the country everywhere, people singing, black armbands, fans enjoying a drink. But, no - we've got to sit with a glass of sherry crying over the wireless. The ONE time you need VAR to reverse a decision and it's nowhere to be seen.
Meh the weekend got dull. Trying to decide what to do on Sunday instead of watching football in the pub, the best idea so far is clean the fish tank. I sound like Alan Shearer.
