My family came to this country before the first world war fleeing religious persecution. My grandfather fought in that war, my father in the second. Later I also served and many decades ago took this oath:

Most of you by your comments would regard such a commitment as ridiculous and out of time. Personally I have never forgotten the debt that my family owes this country. I also happen to think that a constitutional monarchy is a much better political system than it has any right to be, given the excesses of the presidential system in some countries. So excuse me if I happen to mourn the loss of the head of state.

I respect your right to your view...but other have different histories...and consequently, different views.
To see the failings of a hereditary monarchy, all one needs to do is imagine that in 1936, the fascist sympathiser, Edward VIII had remained King. What then for those, like my ancestors who came to this country to escape persecution for their religion?
Hereditary monarchy is an anachronism that serves only the privileged in this country well. I admired the Queen, but with her passing, it's time this country had a proper constitution and system of government.
