That of all the things she has done over the decades shows her feelings on her position. Don't want to derail this thread on to a politics talk but mps were doing what they wanted and there was the Queen attending the funeral sticking to covid restrictions because that's what we were doing at the time! I'm probably not putting it across right but what a respectful thing to do for the British people!

That was probably one of the most powerful and poignant images I've seen in a long time and it just epitomised everything she was about and stood for. Grace, honesty, integrity, humility and solidarity.

The Queen transcended politics. She was above it all and maintained that position, no matter what her MPs were up to. We never asked, and she never said, what her political views were. We might make assumptions about it but we'll never know for sure.

Like you, I don't want to start a political debate here but I believe this is the value in a constitutional monarchy. The Head of State remains separate from politics and is, therefore, a representative for everyone (if, as individuals, we choose to accept that).

It's the image that invokes both sorrow and rage

I awoke this morning and my immediate thought was of the Queen and what an historical time we as a nation have lived with her.
My wife pointed out to me the jet age, the space age, the digital age, which she had read in the paper.
Throughout all of that the one constance was our Queen with grace, and dignity.
She will live on in my memory. RIP

    Yes.

In Westminster Hall, mounted on a Dias, with a Vigil Guard of four, one at each corner, head bowed, swords reversed.
    Four Yeoman Warders also.
Some of the Crown Jewels will be placed on the Coffin, including the Sceptre the Orb and the Imperial State Crown.
The queues waiting to file past will, I guess, stretch for many miles

For King George V1's lying in State, Sir Winston, PM at the time, left his wreath with the simple message, FOR VALOUR.
The inscription on a Victoria Cross, and well deserved.

Your post echo's the feelings in The Country, and The Empire, following the Death of Queen Victoria.

No one then had any confidence that her Son would be able to take her place.
She had kept Edward, Prince of Wales well away from official duties as far as she could, and his 'private life' left much to be desired.

Yet Edward V11 did a very good job.

Our new King has had a very solid grounding, particularly over recent years, he has deep knowledge of his country's history and, is well aware of his Constitutional role and responsibilities to The Country and The Commonwealth.

He will be a very safe pair of hands.

Been watching the news this morning and my thoughts were of the queen's family.

They have to follow protocol and will do their duties but when do they get time to grieve for their mam/nan?

The king has to leave today to go to the palace then tonight make a statement, maybe he'd just like a bit of time with his mam and family?

They may not be everyone cup of tea, but you would like to think the press and people will also respect how upset they are and give them some slack? Or is that unrealistic?

I've never really counted myself as royalist but have always had a respect for the queen, i'm well into my sixties yet I now find myself struggling with this. I was sad yesterday afternoon when the news broke but this morning I woke with a profound feeling of loss and sadness that I don't really understand. I found myself reflecting on and grieving over the loss of my father which happened several years ago.
I can only put this feeling down to the fact that she has been there in the background throughout my life, a constant character of integrity in an ever changing world, struggling to put this into words.
    RIP

Shed a few tears both last night and this morning. What a great, dignified, beloved lady. A constant part of my and everyone’s lives, even if in the background. Everyone I’ve spoken to (North Carolina) have offered their condolences and expressed their admiration of her. As others have said she transcended politics, and it’s been very touching watching world leaders genuinely express their sadness at her passing, particularly the French and Canadian premiers. RIP
