Sky Sports saying Chelsea are going to pay the £16m release clause to get Potter. That'll be really interesting.
Massive risk for him in my opinion and this could ruin him. I'd stay where I was if I were him. Yes of course he wants to progress and manage a bigger club and that is no disrepect to Brighton at all. He's not a Champions League Manager, I didn't even think he was a Premier League quality Manager but he's proven me (and countless others) wrong no doubt in that respect but the Champions League is a completely different animal and the expectations around that from a Chelsea perspective are not where he needs to be putting himself just yet. That being said Chelsea are clearly after him for a very good reason and may well be prepared to give him the time to put his mark on the team/club and invest in him in the same way that our owners are with Eddie for the longer term. You have to go back nearly 20 years to find their last manager who stayed in the job longer than a couple of years so I would absolutely be looking at that and taking that in to consideration in any decision I made. The same is true of course for probably half (at least) of the other teams in the league as that's the way of the world these days. I wouldn't trust any ****ing owner as far as I could throw them regardless of how many assurances they gave me or money they gave me to spend....you lose you're out basically.
They could get Rodgers for £12m.....and they'd surely be guaranteed to get their money back in a couple of years time as well.....just saying !
Pochettino for me - Potter would a shout but I think he'd be mad to leave Brighton for Chelsea! They've had a ****e start to the season and have thrown together a wishlist of players with no consideration for the "team cohesion" aspect of it all. If they don't get what they want by the end of the year - probably a CL place and a Cup of some description he'll be jobless. At Brighton he's developed a great team with limited resources and found a chemistry there that will be exceptionally hard to replicate at Stamford Bridge. The job security he has at Brighton should be more than enough to keep him at the Amex but past that the opportunity to lead them to their first European adventure if he keeps up the good work this year would make me think long and hard about swapping the South Coast for Landan Town.
That would be the only thing that might tempt him. But then you look at Moyes - was massively comfortable at Everton - went to a big team 8 years ago and was shafted after a year, now still rebuilding his reputation to this day.
Difference being though is SAF left Moyes with a truly awful squad that was on its arse This Chelsea squad needs moulding. Potter be the man
Potter would be mental not to take it. Stock is high, he's got to go for it. Even if it didn't work, he'd get a free pass 'cos it's Chelsea and walk into any number of other jobs in the league like Leicester, Forest, etc.
This Chelsea squad are almost ideally suited to the 3-4-2-1 Potter's Brighton are playing at the moment. They may still need a striker, but I could see it working.
Not for me, he's only 49 and at the start of his management career. 3 good to great years at Brighton have got a club like Chelsea interested, and if it does work there what happens? He gets sacked after 6 months with a massive payoff, then goes back to a club like Brighton.
I can't see Potter leaving Brighton to step down to a mediocre London club. The Potch is my favourite.
Potter seems to bring the best out of players and comes up with a system they are all comfortable playing in. They seem to be able to lose best players on transfers and another one just slots right in.
Potter is the best option out there that is possibly get'able for them. If Chelsea offer him the job he surely has to take that opportunity. I honestly think his name is a problem for him getting a big job. Owners think players aren't going to want to play for 'Graham Potter' but I really think he is a great coach.
