Not really sure how that changes things. It's either a foul or it's not. A "soft" or "cheap" foul doesn't stop it being a foul.

If the ref doesn't give a foul VAR shouldn't be allowed to go back. Offsides and goal line only. Maybe handball in penalty area, but that's definitely it.

I'd happily scrap every part of it to be honest - but I'd also want to ban any discussion about referees and bad decisions from managers and pundits. The whole thing is tedious to be honest. It's been a good 45 minutes and all anyone talks about is a single decision which is "contentious" rather than definitively right or wrong. It's getting a bit boring.
