the club may well be 'done' but that might mean they have concluded business and might announce any new signings later (he says, fingers tightly crossed). i still think we should have signed barry bannan then when pritchard starts to tire, get him over for a 'drink' and simply swap him with bannan, officials will never notice and we don't use a sub.
especially bearing in mind we only play two up top BECAUSE it’s Stewart and simms. If one got injured we’d likely play a number 10 or wingers
All we need is a CB on loan And a keeper, which could still happen with Mannone on a free. Otherwise we have enough , just give the young lads time to bed in and kick in
After thinking about how "thin" we really are....we can adapt to an injury crisis fairly easily on paper depending on if we have a 3 or 4 at the back. GK - Patto doing fine. Bass won't play a minute unless Patto has a few howlers. Carney can be recalled. RB/RWB - If Gooch is injured, we've got O'Nien, Hume, Wichester to cover (& Huggins when fit in 2025). All three can play at RB in a 4 or RCB in a 4 CB/RCB/LCB - In a back 4, we only need 2 fit out of Ballard, Batth, Wright, O'Nien & Alese. Hume Cirkin can also drop in at RCB/LCB respectively in a 3. LB/LWB - Arguably our shortest position although not as talked about. If Cirkin is injured, it's Alese and that's about it... CM/CAM - Well we've got about 10 of these so why bother listing RW/LW - Again, god knows how many wingers we have. No issues. ST/CF - If one of Simms/Stewart are injured then we have to swap to one up top. If both are injured by some rotten luck, Max Thompson may step in, or even Diallo. Expecting first XI standard CBs or CFs to sit and wait for an injury is unrealistic. Can see an argument for another first choice CB, however Wright & Alese are probably already fed up of not starting...No striker is going to displace Stewart and Simms either.
Can't really complain if there ends up being no one added to the squad. There's always one or two positions that appear short, bit that's where the coach comes in and might have to tweak formations. CB is fine imo with Baath, 09, Cirkin, BW and Alese with Ballard to come back. Up front we have Stewart and Simms, but would it be the end of the world if we had to play one true striker and say Roberts, or Dialla (sp) just behind or change to a full front 3. I'm still stupidly positive after last night
I’m happy with what we have now. Greed would have asked for a CB/Striker but in reality we look in great shape.
Imagine if the club just gave the journos duff info and had an absolute worldie or two lined up ready to announce at 22.59 as a sign off to the window!
Is it not fewer games till the Jan window due to world cup? Maybe it's risk based. Should be enough to get to Jan, keep a bit back and move in Jan
