Leeds discussing move for Marseille’s Bamba Dieng please log in to view this image By Phil Hay 1h ago Leeds United are discussing a deal for Marseille forward Bamba Dieng after failing with approaches for Cody Gakpo and Hwang Hee-chan. The club’s search for the last-minute addition of a striker to their squad has led them to Dieng following an unsuccessful attempt to secure Gakpo from PSV Eindhoven last night. Leeds’ director of football, Victor Orta, was in Eindhoven yesterday with the intention of landing Gakpo but the winger is set to remain in Holland after PSV rejected offers from Elland Road and Southampton. Hwang, meanwhile, had been the subject of interest from Leeds earlier in the day, an approach which was knocked back by Wolverhampton Wanderers. The West Yorkshire club are now understood to be in discussions over Dieng, the 22-year-old Senegal international. Reports in France indicated that Dieng was on the verge of a move to Lorient but Leeds have attempted to intervene with tonight’s deadline less than 12 hours away. Dieng moved to Marseille from Senegal in 2020 and made his first-team debut last year. He was part of the Senegal squad that won the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations.
Similar profile to kalimuendo and gnonto though both are a bit younger... so i feel about the same as had we landed either of them - his goals per 90 last year wasn't bad though it includes cups, it's actually better than 1 in 2. Trying to stay positive!
It used to be give a new player 10 games before we have a go at him. he hasn't even signed or passed his medical yet and he's getting socks(Irish expression)
Like Eire I have no clue about this new player, but one of the so called experts on Sky said that we had got a bargain. A good or bad one remains to be seen.
If he turns out he be one up from useless at least we won’t miss him when the Africa Nations Cup starts. I’d have been more excited if we’d signed him at the start of the window wondering if he was a great bargain find uncovered by our scouting network. Instead I read Fulham enquired and decided no and that he’s at best 5th choice and cheap
A bit of talk saying Wolves were trying to squeeze us for £25m, as we appeared desperate. Now we've got this signing they know we're not desperate any longer and wouldn't be surprised to see them come back now and accept the £18m. That would be £28m for 2, surely we could afford that, CDK alone was £35-40m
Looking for a positive… Searching back though Twitter for Bamba Dieng and going back to tweets at least 3hrs old and turning on translate, Lorient fans were very excited at the prospect of getting him. It seemed his certain destination and it was very popular amongst the clubs fan base
