Sorry, NJ but I wouldn't use the word 'crap'. More like 'effective and tailored to the opposition'. Semantics I know, but the Toon are a decent side. Take a look at the table.

When both your attacking wingers are deliberately pulled back to protect your RB and LB it limits you to playing longer balls. Probably went against the grain for the Toon players to play like that last night but by god it was effective. I sometimes wish we could be so canny.

If you didn't enjoy the match you can only blame Stoke as their style dictated Pardew's tactics which were absolutely spot on. He's gone up in my estimation after that.

sorry HTR i stand by what i said . are you saying it was newcastles plan not to be able to pass the ball properly or control it properly ??
as for their wide men staying back thats not strictly true ,obertan didnt sit tight to his full back at all , pennent was ineffective because he was sh*t last night!! ;)

you are not suggesting it was tactical by pardew to play like Stoke to get 3pts are you ?? if you are i ll have what your drinking mate!!

2 poor sides last night im afraid, Newcastle suprised me ,maybe it was a one off HTR , all things considered we agree to disagree on this my friend , lets hope im right and they are crap enough for the swans to take 9pts off them eh !! :)

Pardew, and tactical, just don't seem to connect in my books, the guy is clueless, and I'll be very surprised if what HTR is saying is something that Pardew conjured up!....................

That was tactics from Pardew (who has been brilliant, never in a million years expected him to be such a good manager), Gutierrez is one of the most exciting wingers in the league to watch and he was nearly playing at full back because without crosses, Stoke have no threat. That was our least attractive performance by far, please dont think we play like that every week, hoofball doesnt get you within 1 point of Man Utd.

<laugh> NJ: You'll take Smudger's word for it then, but not mine. Straight from the horse's mouth.

    Anything to say, DPJ?

HTR- i Will but only because skuffer is a Newcastle fan and probably watches them a bit more than you! Unless your not really a swans fan that is ;)

Sorry if i upset you aussie it wasnt my intention to do that, but i would rather listen to a newcastle fan talk about Newcastle than a swans fan! Think thats fair dont you ?

I Will now agere and change my view for you aussie , you convinced me as much as skuffer did ! I still Think it was more luck than tactical genious though, and the Eide men didnt stay and protect the full jacks all game either.

Well they say advocacy is the art or persuasion! <laugh>

It's well documented that the Toon are my 'second team' and I make no apologies for it. Grandad was a Geordie and I've been to SJP a few times. Great place, great fans. A real football city. I therefore tend to know a fair bit about them and watch them when they are on TV. That said, I wanted us to beat them when we were both in the Championship and even moreso now. I don't think the Toon will maintain this run, but you're right - I'll be amazed if we finish above them. Stoke? Not so sure.

Yes, see if your little brain can grasp this, 'one tree in bud does not constitute summer', now while I respect smudger's view as a Newcastle fan, It's still early doors, and I'm sure Pardew will not let me down!..................

I'd say it was fairly blatant that Newcastle went there with a game plan. We beat Stoke at our patch, but they beat Manyoo at home, so i'll be surprised if we play exactly how we normally play against them when we go to the Brittania. For one, the limited pitch size restricts how much we'd be able to use our wingers, so we might as well use those wingers to stop theirs getting crosses into the box, much as Newcastle did. I would never have had Pardew down as a shrewd tactician, but you've got to give credit where it's due, he did well there.

Hey, NJ. What Scott said. <laugh>

Well said Scott. The only two who seemed to have missed Newcastle's 'MasterStoke' was NJ and DPJ. Par for the course though. <laugh>

Listen guys Newcastle were pants, they couldnt pass the ball and keep it longer than 5 passes ! Master stroke to not keep the ball nowadays i guess, 2 bad teams on monday simple as that. Im sure it was a one off for Newcastle but we Will. See soon enough wont we.

Tactical master glass by pardew? More down to the fact they had a centre forward playing that had something to prove.

So you're reverting back to your original view having accepted earlier from a Toon fan that you were wrong.

    Er....fine. Whatever.

What did Demba Ba have to do with the fact that Newcastle's wingers were withdrawn to protect the two backs? Has Ba all of a sudden taken over team tactics from Pardew? <laugh> Look, I never rated their manager either. Many Toon fans didn't. But credit where it's due. Is that so hard for you? <doh>

Newcastle didn't play anti-football. They used tactics to nullify Stokes anti-football, and scored a couple of decent goals. Newcastle weren't great, but they're not a great team so they weren't going to go to Stoke and attack them. They did a job very well. I never rated Pardew as a manger either, but anyone who can get Guttierez and Obertan tracking back every time deserves a lot of respect.
