On Perraud. The assist for the goal was a peach. Everyone was expecting him to swing it into the six-yard box, and he just puts it behind the whole lot of them. And then his cross for the Elyounoussi header in the second half was a beauty too. Just floats it gently into the perfect spot.

But, for their goal, while it looks like he made a great tackle to block Sterling in the first place, he shouldn't have needed to make such a sliding effort. He took too long getting back into the defensive line. Sterling was completely open. If Perraud had been further back he could have made a much cleaner block on Sterling.

Anyway, it's good to have him back. Sure he needs a few games to shake off any rust.

I mentioned earlier l was in Block 29, l turned to my mate and said Perraud needs to get back quicker because Sterling was pulling away from Salisu (who perhaps should have been more aware of his surroundings) and blow-me it all unfolded as my worst fears were realised.

Yeah don't know if he's instructed to be that high up the pitch, but he was jogging back when he should have been flat out sprinting JWP-style. Like I said it looked like he made a fantastic recovery tackle, but he shouldn't have needed to. Oh well, haha. Even sweeter that they went up 1-0 I guess.

It’s every groundsman and green keepers nightmare because it is so difficult to anticipate. This looks like a root fungi which is brought on by stress from hot dry spells.

I don't think they let the pitch dry out.

Being reported that Lavia is the first player, born in 2004 to score a Premier League goal. Another first for the mighty Saints.

Here’s a “fascinating” video for you all to “enjoy” about the science and care of professional football pitches.

I thought that yesterday backed up my view that Chelsea will struggle to do anything of note this season (including a top four finish) with Havertz as their main man.

He was arguably the most pointless player on the pitch. Yes Chelsea are far from being the only PL who look short up front - but most of those sides have have Chelsea's financial power. They don't really have an excuse. Maybe they'll get Auba or someone else, but maybe they won't.

That HYS has some good comments to read. This is from an unhappy Chelsea fan who obviously lives in a different world to most PL fans.

Did anyone else catch our 'coverage' in the post-match on MoTD? Our performance wasn't discussed.

I did. The standard focus on the big club and their failings as opposed to us actually outplaying them.
