I really like Japh but he’s been so injury prone, I’d go as far as saying that after Romero, he’s the best CB we have in defending one on one’s, he’s often so hard to beat. Can’t remember too many times where a forward has skinned him or made him look silly. As for Sanchez, he’s done really well stepping in for Romero lately, scares the living **** out of me with his first touch but as a defender he’s pretty solid. Lenglet really impressed me in pre-season, pre-season isn’t much to brag about though but he did look really comfortable with the ball and got up the pitch well, I’d like to see him given a chance soon as the LCB but I think if Dier got injured he could cover CCB too, might not have the same leadership qualities but is likely a superior passer.
Just got to pray Dier stays fit because as we saw when he missed a few games last season we were a shambles at the back. Whilst Dier has his critics there's no doubting we lack his leadership and organisation at the back when he's absent from the team. I'd go as far to say, next to Kane he'd be the player we would miss the most. Lenglet would probably be the best option to play CCB if Dier was out but can he lead the backline ? I'm not sure. It's gone relatively quiet regarding last minute incomings. We massively need another wide attacker because we are an injury away from just having Lucas on the bench.
Yeah Lenglet is the one I’d imagine we’d play at CCB if Dier got injured. I think we’ll bring in possibly 2 by deadline, I reckon almost certainly 1. Could be a complete left field option too.
There was a game last season, can't remember who it was but he had a shocker. I guess the injuries have stunted his progress, its difficult to say Sanchez hasn't done well but he will always make me incredibly nervous.
Not at all. Spending a lorry load on new players does not guarantee an immediate slot in the PL top 4 (would have thought that would be obvious looking at the PL from 2015 to now) .
If we get a player that Conte wants, Japhet Tanganga leaves on a loan. He needs football and is squarely looking at being 7th pick out of 7 if he stays. That serves nobody any good. That said, I think that we're struggling to find his replacement. We're much more likely to find the attacking player at this point...and it could well be Traore.
I know its an unpopular opinion and I've said it before on here I'm not completely against Traore. His end product is shocking, however his ability to pick up the ball and run terrifies defenders. If we were to bring him on with 20 minutes to go it gives the opposition defence a completely different problem. They might double up on him with the idea of trying to stop him which will only give more time / space for Kane, Richarlison, Son, Kulu or Lucas.
The reason I find it unpopular is because the theory he’d drag multiple players away from Kane and co is something I just don’t believe will actually happen. Kane, Son, Kulu and Richarlison are all far superior players to Traore, so if teams are facing us, they’ll be looking to double up on those players more so than be dragged away by someone like Traore. I think it’s telling that not a single club has found genuine use for Traore so far, I know some people like the idea of “one man’s trash” but in this case, I think four man’s trash will just turn into five if we signed him. If he ends up joining of course I’ll back him and I’d love to be proven wrong over my opinion/ theory about him but I just really don’t see any real benefit to signing the guy.
I'm with you mate. I wouldn't be dancing in the streets but wouldn't be against us signing Traore either. As you mentioned bringing him on against tiring defences would be a good weapon to have.
This guy annoys me when the overuse of blud etc but “the only DJ who doesn’t bring music to my ears” made me laugh

Tanganga leaving wouldn’t alter the fact that we already have one too many foreign trained players in the squad. We would need Sarr and Gil to leave to make space for another CB and Doherty to leave as well to bring in James or Traore.
If we can sign someone who Conte wants, Sarr and Gil will be gone. If we could get Bastioni and Zaniolo, Doherty would be too. Who stays depends upon who is available to bring in, not the other way around. Conte wants to win.
