Imagine the scenario though if we had insisted he signed a 3 year contract, because of the fear of what has just happened, but because he only wanted to continue with the 1 year rolling contract, we told him that he was no longer required! In that case Speakman would have been doing, as you stated earlier, what he believed was the best for the club. However, I dread to think the reaction of the fans if this had happened because it would have been much worse than now, with fans asking why we didn't just give him the contract he wanted based upon what he had just done in getting us promotion. As I said earlier, damned if he did damned if he didn't.
It'll be interesting to see whether there's an NDA between Neill and the club. If there is, it speaks volumes about who was ultimately in the wrong here.
Iirc there were a load of backroom changes at the club, some only probably a month or so. If so I'm assuming this was on Judas' say so. He's not only let the fans down but also all these staff members who quite easily could find themselves moved on too.
If the club ARE committed to this DoF model then the coaching staff shouldn't change just because the Head Coach does. What the club need to do urgently is fill the gaps in coaching/managerial positions below the 1st team. I believe we still have no one managing the Academy? No full time u21s manager?
Am fairly sure a 5 year deal on twice what he was on in L1 wouldn't have been enough to stop Neil jumping ship. People can talk all the want about rolling contracts and tying the manager down but everyone knows that contracts aren't worth the paper they are written on any more. Neil was tapped up by Stoke and they promised him more money. That is the long and short of it
It beggers belief that we leave a contract as open as we did. On RTG the amount of back stabbing is unreal, rubberface is massively backtracking over his comment he will never leave. Great fun
Maybe they didn't want him .. looks to me relationships were not in good place. The club has been very calm about this whole saga .
I don't look on there now, unless a signing is imminent, but I just went to see what's being said and it's funny as you say. Someone is saying we should've doubled Neil's money and another claiming he offered to pay part of Simm's wages ... ... so we hand him more cash which he gives to Everton, brilliant The same people who were shouting the loudest about us going into administration are the ones saying we should pay the manager more, appoint more staff, sign more expensive players, etc.
Think the club will be surprised that Barnesy opened the lid on a few things too. Some very revealing podcasts yday that show speakman and to a point KLD in a specific light. We have to get back to the positivity. Neil is gone and we have Mogga in now so no matter which side of the fence you sit on, we will be better for it if everyone is collected as one.
Most don't know what goes on down there, being with all the owners over the playoffs showed me how thick most of them are when it comes to footy. Most fand don't know how close we were to going bust either, because blind loyalty gets in fans eyes and they only see what the scum press tell them.
Bust before or after KLD took over. To be honest I thought we were at last chance saloon and I’m glad we aren’t throwing money away anymore.
We don't have many owners and KLD certainly isn't thick about anything. He's been brought up in a football family who know every single aspect of both the playing and business side of the game. I've no idea about Sartori but he doesn't seem to have much input on the football side.
Some people are only happy when we're doing that tbh. Half of the Championship clubs are in financial trouble ... ... we aren't one of them so we can't be doing things that badly.
