If this is how modern football is being run then I'm not sure I want owt to do with it, The whole AN situation and now this just stinks to high heaven. Could only happen to our club.
He wouldn’t of gone back to Paris to train if it wasn’t pretty much dead, I’m at the point now where I am just sick of supporting a team where you can’t be happy for 5 minutes before an avalanche of bad news appears, just sick
it’s all a game of chess. And will be until deadline morning when suddenly everyone stops ****ing about
They're PSG. They're not trying to trick us out of another few quid. It's literally pennies to them. They're not arsed about leverage, they could leave him in their reserves. Everyone knew he was available, so it's not about awareness. They've wanted to change an aspect of the deal for their benefit. A buy back clause is the only thing that makes enough sense to me. Or they've actually just changed their mind about letting him go.
I doubt those doing the deals are desperate for good news. It is not the sort of thing professionals would fall for, and I reckon PSG know that well enough. Cant believe for 1 minute this is to do with us not having a head coach in place. PSG will probably have never heard of Alex Neil, nor Michut. Maybe Michut wasnt impressed on Saturday, or the lawyers have spotted a technical contract thing. Time will tell.
yeh and perhaps they’ve used this leverage to insert a buy back clause they weren’t going to add before. PSG will squeeze as much as they want. adding a buy back clause is squeezing. Doesn’t have to be about how much we pay but let’s say we agree to buy for 5m and they’re now saying they want a buy back of 8m, we may ascertain that the risk of such a significant outlay isn’t worth it for a potential payback of just 3m
and that’s why we’ve not accepted the new deal clubs regularly change the terms of deals once they’ve been leaked and broken. It happens. This isn’t a special thing where they’re caring about Sunderland. They just know it’s leaked and hoped we’d therefore cave in to any extra demands they add at last moment. Happens all the time
I think that's a stretch personally. The "leverage" you mention isn't really anything. They hike the price up and we walk away, they don't have us over any barrel at all.
thats what we’ve done. It’s not nonsense. Happens all…the…time. Transfers get leaked and the selling club start asking for more money / new clauses.
So how's it leverage? Unless PSG are really bad at business and think they have leverage. We've just let our manager go because we won't pay over the odds. I think they're more intelligent than whacking an extra few million on the deal. Like I said, a buy back is a possibility and that might be what you would class as "gamesmanship". Personally, I wouldn't.
Can't ever remember my club conducting themselves like this. I know football is just a business tool for very rich men, but it's sickened me to my stomach these last few days.
selling clubs often ask for more money when a transfer is leaked and that clubs fanbase react positively to it. It just happens. I’m calling that leverage, because they’re using the fact that it’s been leaked to try to get more money / incentives from us. Doesnt mean we are over a barrel. They’re just testing to see just how much we are willing to give them. It’s our prerogative to say no and stick to original deal - and it sounds like we have. Thats negotiation. And it’s why any transaction in any sort of business is best kept under wraps, especially for the buying party
Bloody hell, I go for a grandad nap and this all happens. That's it I'm staying awake until deadline day has passed
Reckon Bennette will play for the U21's tonight? I'm going down to watch and it'd be canny to see him
