I’ve got over the shock and reached the ‘**** it we be alright’ stage now. We aren’t looking for a gaffer in the 3rd tier now, we are looking for a gaffer with a competitive championship squad. I won’t belittle what Neil has done he’s been ****ing brilliant. I’m gutted he’s going, but he’s absolutely replaceable. Time for Speakman and the owners to show some proper intent, and they need get these 2 deals over the line as well. We’ve a game today and I hope that rather than a toxic atmosphere we all get in there and remind the lads they are playing for a special football club. Sunderland till we die.
I posted it last night, and I'm still thinking it but I'd quite like Duncan Ferguson. Seems to tick a few boxes with youth coaching etc, certainly a motivator
absolutely this. For me it’s moved to damage limitation now. If it’s true the players are angry I hope KLD is reassuring them. We need to keep the players we want to keep and we will be fine
I’d imagine they are shocked more than angry mate. The didn’t sign for Alex Neil, the signed for Sunderland AFC. We still here.
I'd be happy with Dyche, I know he's not everyone's cup of tea but he's a quality manager. He did wonders at Burnley. But I'm still holding out hope that AN will announce this morning that he has spoken to Stoke but decided to stay with us and has signed a 3 year deal.
I have to disagree. The structure HELPED. But it was AN's very pragmatic and experienced approach that got us up. We were sinking like a stone, he came in and made almost every player better, was very savvy with his selections and tactics, took the pressure off them in big games and made them very, very hard to beat. Noting to do with structure that I'd say, it was someone who knew what he was doing. And I doubt we'll get better if he has to answer to a jargon spouting pretender. And even if we do, under this set up, if he does well, he'll be off too. As long as the process is following mutually shared goals , leading towards a beneficial outcome............which we are all working towards......in .....etc etc....
But the fact that Neil was brought in is inherently part of the structure. The Head Coach is much more dispensable than a Manager. He was the right man at the right time but he didn't come in and change everything like a new manager would (if you see the distinction) and had to work with what was already there. The ship was already built, he just had to steer it.
Is Canning the understudy in charge today? 2 home games 6 points, excellent performances and you never know. Might want a crack at it himself.
What about Javi Gracia? Tactically, he would fit. Or Roberto de Zerbi, currently at Shakhtar but with the way things are there, who knows.
Every name in this entire thread makes bleach look like an acceptable chaser to my pint of glass. Worrying thing is, if we wouldn't pay AN what was required to stay we aren't going to spend that to bring someone in either. Parky 2.0 incoming
according to Alan Nixon he supposed to be in charge today but according to Nick Barnes and bbc radio Newcastle last night it gonna be Dodds and Proctor in charge the thought of them 2 in charge fills me with dread
Aye. But the much lauded structure couldn't bend enough to keep a coach of proven ability. And that is the glaring problem here, written in bold letters. It looks to me as if the team is serving the needs of the structure, and not the structure serving the needs of the team. It's the wrong way round, and the only one above it all is Speakman. He is a problem, and a big one. Any coach coming in will get the same deal or similar, in other words the process is above the team. But the first team should count above everything, and count today. An inflexible structure in any business will fail, and it's no different here.
The structure isn't supposed to bend. The coach has to fit the structure. If he's not willing to work within it, he has to go. I'm glad the club aren't allowing themselves to be held to ransom by Neil, either financially or in the way that the club is run.
Can you just imagine Dyche, a vet of hundreds of games , most in the Premier League, being interviewed by a bloke who has never played, coached or managed at anything over youth team level, not even in non league football?
