This is a comment from MA from the article below, 'While the head coach must agree on every player coming in, Ashton runs the recruitment team and has a large say on players brought in.''
LJ agreed on every player signed.

didnt actually work out as we kept selling the core ....players like Palmer was a candidate that didnt fit in ... and covid didnt help or 3 managers in a short space of time ... seems to be "the knee jerk" or is it ? in results at present!

I've seen this article before Wiz and read the statement.
However, whatever anyone thinks of LJ, I find it difficult to believe that he would bring in a player like Kent, knowing that the club would get fined if he doesn't get games - and then not play him.
I accept that this might be true, but it defies common sense.

Maybe the truth is something more like:
LJ: I need 'certain type of player (whatever Kent is)
MA: Do you want me to find one for you?
    LJ: Yes please
MA: Ok - here you go - here's Kent
    LJ: Bollocks - he's **** - I can't play him
MA (to the press): 'LJ authorises every player we sign'

That’s one heck of a lot of speculation,

Yes - and I have absolutely NO proof whatsoever.
My 'evidence' is circumstantial at best I admit. Kent was a LOAN player (rather than a home-grown kid) so we must have deliberately negotiated with Liverpool to get him. Presumably someone must have gone and watched him in training(??) - and then LJ wouldn't play him????
I actually AGREE with LJ not playing him btw - he was truly shocking - but its the circumstances around GETTING him in the first place that makes me doubt that LJ would have chosen him and probably had him thrust upon him. The whole episode was weird and doesn't add up.
Just a footnote: the Kent scenario is particularly weird because it doesn't align with the 'buy cheap and sell at a profit' policy that we were following during that era. There was absolutely NO money to be made on a loan, so the decision would appear to have been purely to do with on-pitch considerations.

    R&W - ' obvious example' ?
    FYI
From the time we signed Kent in the national press.

Boss Johnson said of the deal ' I'm delighted to bring in a player of Ryan Kents quality. He did very well at Barnsley and has ability and genuine speed. We thank Liverpool with entrusting us with another top player's development '.

    Hope this helps.

The article states must agree on every player coming in, nothing like LJ authorises, I can't believe a player on loan that cost Bristol City FC £200k was imposed on LJ, if so he is far weaker than I thought, he must have agreed to his signing.

Same goes for Pearson bringing in Danny "oxygen thief" Simpson. Why are we still going over old ground. Every manager makes signings that don't work out.....

I think that this particular little LJ/MA sidetrack discussion was born out of your response to the Webster article Supcon <cheers>

Kane Wilson says patience will be rewarded in honest assessment of start to life at Bristol City
The wing-back can't wait to show off his true ability as he relishes the challenges of making the step up from League Two
    https://www.bristolpost.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/bristol-city-kane-wilson-patience-7511718

I like this comment from the end of his article ~
" The lads are chomping at the bit and that's what a good environment is. Everyone is trying to get the same thing. The team is in a great position and everyone is pulling in the same direction from the gaffer to the staff in the kitchen and there's a real feel-good factor in the building.
"We want to do something special here."

Of what I saw in the pre season friendlies, I think Kane Wilson has got bags of potential and will adjust to championship football, but needs time.. good player imo..

The jump from L2 to the Championship is huge. We, and he, can't expect him to walk in and get to the pace from Day 1. Break him in slowly is the way.

Mad, we get fined for a few handbags, EFL admit ref got 3 major penalty decisions wrong against us in 1 game - nothing , something is obviously wrong.
