I' want to see the club run sensibly, and within a budget. All the idoits screaming for us to spend millions can chip in with some cash whenever they feel like it - the club has been a car crash for years, between overpsending and drastic cutting of jobs. As for the Olly groome redundancy, I don't know what on earth happened there. I will say the way it was done seems to have been utterly graceless. A few people have complained that Saandgard didn't do it personally which smacks a bit of the anti Sandgaard agenda some people have. But I find it hard to see how much of a saving this 'cost cutting' thing will achieve. Plus Olly was a big Charlton fan and servant, who was one of those who faced down the bad guys that evening when the Southall coup was threatening to sink us completely. If we are short of money and this job needed, my feeling is that a bit of a send off with a gold watch with the charlton badge on it, and a few speeches would have been the way to go. And here is why I don't see this as cost cutting. He was taken to an office at Welling Utd and told he was being made redundant with immediate effect. I've seen that sort of thing in the city. It suggests someone thought he would see out his last few weeks at the club damaging it, which sounds very unlikely.
I wish Olly the best in the future. But something odd has happened here, and as it stands, it doesn't reflect well on the club.

Gilbey was an unused sub in the first two league games of the season.
In the 1-0 win over Derby he was the only unused sub from seven after Charlton made a concussion substitution, then five others later.

He played the whole game against QPR in the Carabao Cup.
    Did not take a penalty.

Not sure why Garner wants to bring in another CB. We've got Lavelle, O'Connell, Innis and Elerewe, and Clare can play there. The world and his wife knows it's a striker we need.

Shouldn't have signed all those CM"s then if it means we can't buy a striker.

i can see gilbey's transfer being cancelled. with our growing and expected injury list, i cant see anyone going out. i'm just surprise JFC hasnt been given a chance... on top form, he should be our best player

I agree. We've bought in midfielders who aren't as good. None of them could do Dobbo's job if he gets suspended or injured, only JF-C.

yep, with our transfer policy (spend zero), i'd rather keep the players we have and just make use of them (JFC, Gilbey, DJ)

I think it's worth pointing out that most of the players we have let us down badly last season.

Granted we have a new gaffer who might be able to get a better tune out of them.
But he'd have to get the couple of the Brandenburg Concertos out of them for Charlton to threaten the top 6.

I'm putting my faith in Ben Garner.
If he doesn't want them, not a problem to me if they go.

If I know how this works by now, it means his release clause has been met and he’s agreeing personal terms with his new club
