yep. I feel now that Ronaldo’s leaving is becoming a top priority. No point keeping a player so evidently keen to leave so that he can play CL football. It’s affecting team morale. We simply have to have someone converting the chances that the midfield will create (hopefully).

The Greedy Glazers reluctantly open the purse strings when they are under pressure. Bottom of the league, no points, fans calling for their ****ing heads and potential buyers circling. Does anyone sane believe we would even consider a bid for Casemiro if we had beaten Brentford or Brighton? The ****ing GGs are being forced to act under pressure. Otherwise they have eyes on the maximum dividend they can extract from the club, win or lose, CL or no CL.

If we sign Antony it's been a good transfer window.

If we sign De Jong as well, it'll be an excellent transfer window.

Not just that, but imo would indicate United knew what they were doing behind the scenes and knew the timeframes involved.

Surely de Jong is dead now that we are looking to sign Casemiro which, incidentally, is a shrewd move and might help shore up our defence given that Varane and he know each other's game inside out. At least now both defenders have someone capable to give the ball to.

Let’s not kid ourselves, Treble. We needed a team in place before the season started. I wouldn’t imagine that the transfer deadline date is what we’ve been working with the whole time. If that’s what we’ve been doing, it actually proves the point that we are reactive than proactive with our strategy.

De Jong is a different type of CM, he controls the midfield from defence to attack.

Cassemero is a DM. He's a bull and a grafter but he doesn't have the all round game of De Jong.

De Jong is also the long-term plan, the player TH wants to build the team around. He is the future. United haven't given up on him.

Actually the only reason we think it's reactive is based on media reports. If they get the players Ten Hag wants then United have been no different in terms of acquiring their 1st choice or 2nd choice or even 3rd, to any other club. Have they?

IF (and it's a big IF I'll grant you that) we get Antony and/or De Jong then we have to accept Ten Hag/Arnold/Murtough accept that this is a long term project and that completing the signings after the start of the season was worth taking the risk for the longer term view.

You are the most optimistic bloke on the planet mate. We have to accept that the Dejong project is gone.

How is every thought or opinion so vaguely attributed to “the media”?

I certainly don’t sit around reading opinions on the club. The reality is there for all of to see and make up our minds.

Regardless though, I do hope that we kick on from here and there is no better time to do that than this weekend.

So where do you get this reality from if not from the media/twitter etc?

Well, as the UK papers are quick to point out, we don't have a Modric or Kroos to help him shine so how that manifests itself in terms of team setup we'll have to wait and see but probably Bruno and Eriksen will take on those roles (if we don't sign more in MF).

As a week in/week out player he has been solid for years, no sign of his skills tailing off or him being less influential in his position on the field - it's not as if he's become a donkey and RM will be laughing all the way to the bank. having said that there are youngsters being brought on in the RM B side and the academy and I would imagine that in a couple of years he would have seen less game time, but not because his time has gone. He is one of those unsung heroes in a game, much of what makes him good is the simplicity of what he does, steady passer of the ball, good in possession and always looking to drive the play forwards. Hope it all translates to a successful signing for us.

On balance I would say our gain, RM's loss.

I think it's all those 'sources suggest' and 'reports say' messages, which are always true of course.

Thank you for the breakdown, sir! Surely he has to be better than McTominay who has just turned into a full donkey.

Bailly signs for Marseille. Initial loan deal with option to buy at the end of it.
