Good Morning. It's Friday 19th August, and here are the latest headlines from Elland Road

Leeds issue hands off warning to Manchester Utd

Recent media speculation linking Illan Meslier with a move to Old Trafford has been put to bed after it was revealed that Elland Road chiefs refused to hold talks with their Lancashire counterparts. Meslier, a £5m buy from French outfit Lorient has proved to be one of the biggest success stories of Victor Orta's tenure.

He joined provisionally on loan during the Summer of 2019, but made the move permanent twelve months later and became first choice keeper in early 2020 after Kiko Casilla was suspended for eight games for allegedly using racist language towards Jonathan Leko.

Last season, the 6ft 6' shot stopper was instrumental in helping keep Leeds in the top flight, receiving the accolade of most saves in the Premier League, not bad for someone who was just 21 at the time. Meslier is contracted to Leeds until the Summer of 2026, but with Manchester Utd, Leicester City and Spurs all circling, how long can Leeds keep hold of him for? If an offer came in for £60m, would you accept it?

    No more signings expected

During his latest Q and A session, Elland Road journalist Beren Cross poured cold water on the premise that a big money signing may be lined up before the end of the month. Leeds have been chasing shadows all Summer as far as finding a top marksman is concerned. Both Marsch, and Orta have identified targets, yet the players they want are not available.

Cross also made it clear that Leeds have faith in their current squad, especially with Rodrigo finding his striking boots, but concluded that unless there's a serious injury between now, and the end of the month, don't expect to see any new faces at Elland Road.

"Based on the noises we are hearing behind the scenes and in Marsch's press conferences, my gut instinct is they won't add anyone else now unless they suffer a serious injury to a senior player. One of their key arguments is avoiding a block in the path of Gelhardt's development. Rodrigo's goals have also pushed him into the debate at the right time for the club to believe he's another reason they don't need another striker."

"We can disagree with that approach, and I believe they do need another forward, but this seems to be the route they are going down. I understand there are still forwards out there who do fit the profile they want, but Leeds will only move if they are made available before the window closes." "I don’t think cash is being held back because January is on their minds, it’s being held back because the players who fit their recruitment profile are not available and they have faith in what they already have in the building."

If Man U want to come shopping at Elland Road we have a certain Patrick Bamford who could be made available
Otherwise they can go do one
My view it’s way beyond time we had a serious look at Bamford time he moved on

Of course it’s time but realistically we’d be lucky to give him away in his current state

    Morning all.

I’d love to say I told you so, that there wouldn’t be a marquee signing but I think the majority on here felt the same. Disgraceful that we start our third season in the PL with two strikers, one of them an U23

I wouldn’t sell Meslier for £100m - We sold KP and Raphinha and proved we either can’t attract or won’t spend on adequate replacements. I think we all know we’re in for a long season and we’re going to be complaining about injuries non stop.

Llorente, Firpo, Forshaw, Bamford, Rodrigo they just don’t do entire seasons, Ayling and Dallas big injuries, ahh bollocks

Negligence of the highest order by the club.

No left backs or no strikers available, transfer window open. No business to do.

But re the meslier thing we have little or no say. If he walks into Jesses office Monday morning and says he wants to sign for scum there’s apparently nothing we can do about it. Stuff about telling scum where to go is just pr after all

To make it worse just hearing Bamford wont be playing against Chelsea, so does our 20yo striker start backed up by 18yo Perkins and Joseph. Surely its obvious we need a new striker wtf

    It could be worse.

Several sources are claiming we are after Neal Maupay for £15m

Nobody can convince me there isn’t a striker available anywhere better than Bamford of past twelve months or Joffy either. He may prove to be great but can we afford to hang around another season waiting on his development to complete hopefully

Still an improvement on a striker who can’t play

    Morning all.

We should just break the bank and sign the current top scorer in the PL.

Go and get him Victor. Maybe his club will be glad to get rid of him.

Just increases his value. Grealish had just signed a new contract with villa and then headed off to city. Player can do whatever he wants regardless of club statements

Neal Maupay tears us apart everytime we play against him.

Che Adams is made for us.

We currently have Dan James pencilled in up front.

It's not always about goals. It's about getting us up the pitch, leading the press, playing others in to the game. James can't do it. Not his fault, it's not his position.

Tell that to Harry Kane ! Although that was one of the rare times a club played hard ball and won.
