Yeah that's how I see the FFP working. We signed Griggs years ago and I'm as far as I'm aware he never hit any clauses and he's off the books, his contract ran out.

I thought we'd be in credit, tbh.

Never mentioned going daft with signings. We are in a position where we should still be able to spend a few million without worrying about it. If it goes tits up, Sell Dan for a few quid.

I agree mate I doubt anyone wants him starting 46 games. My guess would be arounf 30-35 is the target, across the season. I have a feeling that games like tonight would be when Neil would give him a little break, but we cant do that it seems, and I suspect there is a little bit of frustration about that.p

I think we have challenges on the depth front. Pritchard is one that seems to pick up injuries, and doesnt last the 90 often. Evans and Baath are others that might be expected to miss games here and there. Finding lads that can slot in and the standards are the same is easier said than done though...

If we lost money last year, and the year before, then there is a limit on how much we can lose this year. I think that is my concern, although I am no accountant. Everton are an example of living hand to mouth, just sold Richarlison to ensure they didnt break the 3 year limit last season. Now spending again and will probably have to offload another in the summer coming. Groundhog day.

Great points re Dan Neil. I noticed in pre Season he was creating overloads out wide. When we have played a back 5 he has often been the overload through the middle, getting ahead of Pritchard. It is definitely an instruction from the gaffer. When we play 3 centre backs Evans should never be overrun, unless 1 isnt stepping out when we have the ball. I know people think Dan Neil should be more of a terrier / defensive minded player because he lines up alongside Evans, but that really isnt his game, nor is it his instruction in my opinion. I would bet the team formation Alex Neil uses with his players bears no resemblance to what is put up on a sky graphis. Formations are never in straight lines really - stewart and simms dont play in a line, they will be fluid. Same as Dan I reckon, licence to roam whereas Evans will be more restricted. He is the deep lying playmaker, to knit defence and attack together, and get forward in support. Personally I think he is very good already, but also has the most room to improve as well and he could well be outstanding. I just hope we have the patience to let him keep learning this new level, and his own game, because we will be paid back in bucket loads in my opinion.

We don't need to compare ourselves to Everton. They've been badly run for years.....they're where we were under Ellis. If they had looked at us and how we have been mismanaged, they could have changed course. If I was an Everton fan,I'd be saying, look at Sunderland......that is going to happen to us.
The difference is....as I've mentioned loads of times.....we have a 48k stadium...(.and,with success,we know we can fill it!)......Everton don't....and,if they're going to get one, someone is going to have to provide £700m...on top of player deals. They're in the ****!

Everton have been terribly mismanaged, haven't they. They have the highest wages to income ratio in England and have spent hundreds of millions whilst burning through managers. They'll drop this season or next.

With regards to the last couple years, I'll back away from this debate because I'm honestly not sure. I thought clubs were handed assistance balancing their books because of lost revenue through Covid.

Yeah saw that, teams know we need to strengthen there now so that will put prices up slightly too, I hope we just pay it but I’m not incharge of the finances

Funnily enough when everyone was talking about midfielders a few weeks ago I was going to mention Baker. Quality player, managed about 10 goals last season in half the games iirc when I was looking

If you were Everton would you rather sell him for £200k to Sunderland now or loan him to Wigan for another season and have them pay half his wage - so you end up footing £250k for a season in which his value could easily jump 10x what they were going to sell him to use before he signed a new contract

We probably had a go. His Dad played for both clubs and probably had a better time there.

You can tell that's true because he kept his long throws a secret when he played for us.

needs to go somewhere to play and he wouldn't here. Any forward we likely bring in with be able to play anywhere across front 3

I wasn't being serious, who knows why it didn't happen. You don't have to build an entire game plan around it like Stoke did but you'd think it'd have been useful.
