It would be hardvto grumble at anything. Morgan looks a different player. Leaburn looked great, albeit against a tiring Pilgrims defence. Stockley was tireless in the link up play. 11 v 11 eould have been different, but hard not to bask in that!
I didn't see that performance coming! No more moaning about players not making themselves available, they all wanted it tonight. Congratulations to Garner, he has instilled a real squad spirit, which is a joy to watch, except for those who are happier lashing ahrt. Clare was my MOM, he was subjected to a lot of crafty fouls on the referee's blind side, but kept his cool played a blinder and scored a screamer.
We played VERY well, hopefully we can carry this on to Saturday. What are liked most, apart from the scoreline, was our football on the deck. Clayden and Kirk on the left seemed to work, the palice dude was electric but does not have a right foot, we could have have won well easier.
Well done Charlton and no complaints from me about the scoreline. We played really well in the last game and played realy badly in this one. Thought the Ref was a bit harsh with the Red. Not sure it was deliberate handball and a penalty and yellow would have done the same job. It did kill it as any sort of competition. There seems to be a sort of jynx over Argyle with your crew. Anyway round of applause to you.
Shame there were so few to see it, I reckon about 8,000, but charging £32 for a Tuesday night game in the middle of a cost-of living crisis is plain stupid. TS says he wants to fill the Valley but he must realise that the people he wants to attract have other priorities.
Hi @sensiblegreeny, good to see you again. It was a great advert for league 1 football up to the penalty. Red card? He stopped what lookd like a certain goal with his hand, so definate penalty, and card. I can't keep up with the handball interpretations these days. His arm was in an 'unnatural position' but as Alan Curbishley said at half time, he probably didn't know too much about it. I would guess the letter of the law says a straight red, but that was a heavy punishment for something that was possibly involuntary. And it swung the game. Chasing a two goal deficit with ten men for 50 minutes is asking a lot, and the score probably reflects the ten men tiring as much as Charlton superiority. Still, you looked a tidy outfit up to the penalty, so I imagine you'll be there abouts as the season progresses. Have a great season apart from when we visit Home Park!
i did think the red was harsh. bad enough giving a home team a penalty. it allowed us to get comfortable in our new way of play though so i wont complain. just a shame for plymouth that guy now has to serve a ban.
I've always thought when a handball stops the ball going into the goal when it definitely would have gone in otherwise, a goal should be awarded, not a penalty. Because if the penalty is saved (or missed) then the handball has definitely altered the match in a huge way to the advantage of the offending player and his team. (I think it was Ghana who were knocked out of the World Cup Finals by Uruguay because of a Suarez handball on the line and a missed penalty). Indeed, if a goal is awarded I think it means there is less pressure on the offending player to be sent off. A yellow card should be enough, as the score has not been compromised.
Don't disagree the ball was goal bound and it hit his arm or hand. It's just that it was from a few feet away and when a pro footballer leathers it then if you are in the way it is a bit much to expect you to get out of the way. That's the harsh bit for me not the penalty or even awarding a goal as lardiman suggested. Think it was a good advert Ken and also think your lot will be up there or there abouts this season if you maintain that form. You have some tidy players. Lot of supposed "big clubs" in this league this season and it gets harder and harder to compete with some of the budgets. Thing is they can't all be successful despite their fans thinking different. Anyway best of luck for the rest of it.
I thought they got rid of the double jeopardy rule, so should’ve been a penalty and a yellow card, but maybe that’s for a foul in the box and not a handball denying a goal. Seems harsh that he also must now serve a suspension, triple whammy
If the defender had got a yellow and Stockley had missed the penalty there would be an entirely different debate going on. The idea of awarding a goal in a situation like this seems quite a good one, a bit like a penalty try being awarded in rugby. The 10-minute sin-bin is another good rugby idea.
