Before yesterday I would've thought better of Murtough but with Garner being put up for sale to raise money (a whopping £15m) I can see that being true.

“Manchester United's £15m move for Adrien Rabiot 'is OFF due to the Juventus star's excessive wage demands'... leaving Erik ten Hag back at square one in his miserable pursuit of a new midfielder “

I’m would be happy with this story if it proves to be true. I do not think he is the right player for this team in terms of character.

I don't think it's a bad thing but not because I don't want the player.

    There's a bigger question here.

Nunez, Antony, Rabiot - ALL are either stalling or didn't happen because we are making a stance on wages and or fees.

This looks like a shift in our ethos. One which is moving away from the Ed Woodward approach to transfers where you bend over and take whatever the selling club and player want to shove up your arse.

So the question is, are you happy from solely THAT perspective, regardless of the player, that we appear to be sending out the message that we're not going to roll over anymore (because there's no doubt we have a acquired a rep for it with clubs out there under Woody)

Are we prepared to take the pain in the short term to change this for the long term?

I think that if we truly care about the club, we have to be prepared to take the short term pain to a longer term stability.

Players shouldn’t be taking us for mugs. And if we miss out on key signings, then let’s do it very quickly and not turn it into protracted farce.

On Rabiot specifically, I think we need a strong character that is about team before self. I don’t know if he fits that bill based on his history.

Ah OK, so today's hat reads bravo for not paying high wages and getting mugged off with transfer fees.

Will tomorrow's read just get the fricking deal done?

In answer to that I think depends on the actions taken. IF this is a deliberate change in stance by the club then if they choose to pay the amount it's because they see it worthwhile. If they choose not to then it's because they don't.

That's still a far cry from Woody's let's just pay it regardless, whether they're worth it or not. AND when the player's motives for moving are solely money e.g. Sanchez

I'd be happy to go with the former.

The caveat to that is we get fully behind the manager, assume he buys into that policy, and don't all start whining that we didn't sign player A and player B for whatever reason, when we're not top four after ten games.

If we're not paying top dollar, we must also accept that we are mid table fodder for a flew more years until we develop a squad over time.

Like happened under a certain Mr Ferguson.

In the meantime also somehow get rid of Glazers.

I like this bit <ok>

Man Utd won’t change salary bid made to Rabiot. Up to him, as board’s already exploring other options

Completely agree. It's like the narrative we're desperate and easy... so let's try and rinse us. Fck off.

Getting rid of the Glazers is our TOP priority. I’ve called them to go when they first ‘bought’ /(stole more like through using the clubs own assets) the club. Their philosophy has always been wrong. Viewing the club as a financial cash cow first and foremost and football or sporting club second. Yes they would spend money , in fact silly money on some big names but with an eye on marketing rather then fitting in the squad. No idea where the player/s would fit in the system or not or whether the manager wanted them or not. In the meantime just as in the pitch the stadium is rotting away.

As long as they are around, this club will find it difficult to fully recover as they symbolise everything that’s wrong.

    They don't even spend money.

They saddle the club with enormous debt and use that. All they do is take multi million dividends every year.

They are raping the name of Manchester United.

Apparently we're also in for Yan Sommer (no me neither) from Borussia Gladbach as backup goalie.

We need a decent goal keeper as much as any other position on the field.

Been a good keeper over the years and still plays as first choice for Switzerland (i think). Not sure why we would need him as back up now though, we should be looking for a starter and have de Gea as back up.

Then perhaps go for a younger goal keeper? He’s 33 which isn’t young even in goal keeper’s. But if he is still effective with his reflex and all, then I guess there’s no problem.

We need a big ****er in goal, de gea is a weeny chicken still, he has reflexes but no physical presence. Donnarumma would be the ideal candidate but someone in that mould is required, someone who can intimidate and stand up to forwards, something that de gea leaves to his defence - and look what happens.
