Good Morning. It's Tuesday 16th August, and here are the latest headlines from Elland Road

Leeds 'trust the current first-team squad to be successful

Fabrizio Romano has claimed that Leeds 'trust the current first-team squad to be successful', and will only splash the cash if the right targets become available. It was assumed that Bamford's latest injury would send the Elland Road scouts into overdrive, but according to the reliable transfer guru, Leeds are playing it cool.

Whilst Rodrigo has hit a rich vein of form, scoring six goals in three outings (if you include the hat trick he scored against Cagliari just over a fortnight ago), consistency has been a problem for the Spaniard, since his arrival at Elland Road two years ago. This only leaves Gelhardt as their only other recognised first team forward.

New year wins against Burnley and West Ham persuaded the Whites not to invest during the January transfer window, and it almost cost them their top flight status. Are Leeds going to gamble again?

According to Romano “For Leeds, they are exploring some options. But they want to make sure that it is the right opportunity. They don’t want to waste money, they trust the players they have, and so they’re looking at the market for some opportunities.”

Dumb mistakes cost us - Struijk

Pascal Struijk has highlighted 'dumb mistake' as being the reason why Leeds only returned from St Mary's with a point at the weekend. The versatile defender also admitted that Hasenhuttl's triple substitution made it difficult for the Leeds defence.

He said: “Some dumb mistakes from us really which gave them the chance to equalise. But really we should see this game out and make sure we win this. “We had chances as well but we just need to score them and make sure we don’t concede them. When they put so many attackers on they’re going to create some pressure on the back line but make sure we don’t concede and this is the biggest thing. It made it hard for us.”

Plucky Canaries come from behind twice to claim draw

Norwich City's U21's came from behind twice last night to secure a well deserved draw against an experienced Leeds side which included Mateusz Klich and Adam Forshaw.

Mateo Joseph's rich vein of form in front of goal continued, as he fired the Whites ahead after just seven minutes (his fifth in two games). The lead would only last a few minutes however; Kamara tucked away Springett's cross from close range. Leeds has efforts on goal from Klich and Summerville, but neither could restore the hosts advantage. The Canaries could have stolen the lead just before half-time, but Christy's smart save denied Springett from the edge of the area.

Whatever Michael Skubala (Leeds U21 Manager) said at half-time seemed to work, as the Whites retook the lead two minutes into the second half. Summerville's sublime through ball cut the Norwich defence in half, and Perkins was on hand to grab his second goal in as many games. Leeds could have extended their lead further, as the quality of Joseph and Summerville began to shine through, but Norwich had other ideas. Their equaliser came on the hour mark from Abu Kamara. His well executed curling shot gave Christy no chance.

Joseph and Summerville both had further opportunities to restore Leeds advantage, including an injury time effort from the Dutchman that rattled the post, but the game ended in stalemate.

Should Summerville go out on loan

Crysencio Summerville looked a different class last night, during the 2-2 draw against Norwich, but whilst he stood out for Skubala's side, I can't help but think he needs to go out on loan. The soon-to-be 21yo needs to be playing first team football. His performances might light up Thorp Arch, but I can't see him getting the same opportunities at Elland Road.

He has signed a new long term deal, and under the management, has the potential to improve further should he play week in, week out!

    Morning all

The club hasn’t learnt a thing from last season if they feel we’re good to see the season through with what we have

I’ve always defended Radz and what he has spent but I’ll not defend him this season if we don’t get at least another decent attacker

Llorente, Firpo, Bamford, Forshaw, four players with a lousy record when it comes to injuries, we don’t know what Ayling and Dallas will be like when they’re back. Rodrigo always manages a spell on the sidelines too

If Bamford is sidelined for half a season and we rely on James up front then it’s going to be a disaster.

I know it won’t just affect us but when we reach a month to go until the World Cup, I wonder how many players will still be giving it 100%

    Morning all :emoticon-0148-yes:

if we fail to buy a LB and a Striker we can only blame Marsch. We know there is cash available and soit must follow that if Jesse thinks he has enough we have to accept that….. however if the gamble fails. We only have one LB in the club and hes injured and even the 21s yesterday could have done with one?

Summerville could go out on loan unless we are selling Dan James? Lets be honest James is a winger, a left winger who can play on the right, but at £25m and not playing in his given role? Maybe better off him going as we have Sinisterra and Summerville who play wide right/left we have Aaronson and Rodrigo who play narrow right/left as half wingers?

Could see young Stu McKinstry going to Motherwell on a season loan this week and with luck Poveda sold

To sell James you need a club that wants to buy him and I haven’t heard of.anyone beating a path to our door.

Unless you’re Nottingham forest you don’t buy an entire new team in one window. I feel that with everyone fit, the squad is still clearly light at left back.

We probably have enough cover in principle at CF for a side that only plays one up front… (marsch likes 4222, but has been more 4231 with us) but and it’s a big but, the injury record is terrible. Eventually you have to decide whether you have a squad that accounts for sicknotes with extra players… or whether you get rid of the sicknotes.

number 1 priority is staying up. Goals are critical to that. If your 2 first choice strikers are rarely fit.. surely you have to take another one. Can be hard to get them to come if there’s lots of competition for only 1 place and Sod’s law dictates that if you sign one, the others will stay fit…. But it’s the lesser of evils. I can see why they’ve looked at some cheaper options as back up… and some kids who could do a job now if required but are mainly for the future. Are they smoke-screening when saying they don’t need anyone? Do they think our u21s can step up if needed? If so why did marsch previously state we were looking at adding a striker?

I feel the same about the midfield. We have 2 pivots… we can’t rely on Forshaw to be fit as cover, Koch isn’t ideal there, neither is klich if he stays … do we trust gray, greenwood, gyabi there yet? Maybe they do.

Even if Firpo turns out to be as good as some say he will be, needs to settle, needs time, give him a chance etc etc, he’s also turning out to be more than susceptible to injuries, so it’s glaringly obvious we need another LB as cover/first choice.

It’s a bit negligent not to address the situation imo.

    Afternoon all,

Personally see Che Adams as the perfect choice as a new striker. A reasonable price for a Premier league regular striker. He is bit high profile enough that he would displace Bamford or Joffy but is accomplished enough to offer cover and competition at a very reasonable price.

For the same reason I think we need to be looking at that sort of level lb. Someone like Tymon is it at Stoke?

Cover and competition for Firpo who is clearly viewed as first choice lb. Another decent player at a decent price.

I agree but the problem is the method they want to use is buy young and have a high potential sell on which I don’t believe either of those mentioned have which is why I don’t think we’ll sign anyone. We may go for a LB but the only way we get another attacker is if Harrison goes I’m thinking. It seems like we got the business we wanted done early and it’s now gone very quiet.

Tymon is only 22. Available for less than 5 million.

How can we blame Marsh. We’ve been fed that ridiculous line for last couple of years that there’s money for a striker. Barca haven’t paid a penny yet for Rapha and we still owe a fortune for jka. Bielsa supposedly had same resources and according to many was the worlds best and he didn’t get one. Anyway even if offering money wouldn’t guarantee anyone would come. Anyway morning all from a very sunny Costa del somewhere
And heats affecting my brain already

But we won’t ever have everyone fit. No team does. We won’t have two fit strikers even very often. That pipe dream of everyone getting fit lasted all of last season. Just when we had a decent squad we had a few went on end of season strike with red cards

Because hes the fkg manager who got the players he wanted, the new coaches he wanted even academy coaches, he makes the tactics and drills the players. You were excellent at slagging Bielsa off Eire when the wheels fell off but now only interested in slagging off Radz and Orta for some reason. Sometimes you make no sense

Never slag Bielsa. Criticised Maybe when wheels had compLetely fallen off and many supporters felt he should have finished the season while more like myself felt he had run his race. Radz also was of that opinion. The internet is full of big names we supposedly are trying to sign, vast vast majority is click bait. Anyway I’m sure January will see the same names again. All about diverse opinions Doc <ok>

So about two weeks until the transfer window shuts. Here’s hoping for the striker and left back. Disappointed we didn’t counter the subs made by saints, particularly in that heat. Those additional two points we lost are precious based on last year. Chelski next

Doc's post was in response to Eire's view on the clubs transfer policy in recent times. Now it's a forthright response but in no way does it close down the debate, in fact he's inviting Eire to offer further clarification of his opinions as to Doc it just doesn't make sense.

Some of you just don't like it up em.

Or in other words...expect to be challenged if you post and don't take offense if other posters think you're talking bollocks.

Eire's reply clearly took that view and that it's all about differing opinions, so why didn't you Mr Grudge Bearing Hidden Agenda ?
