You didn’t respond to my point that many have essentially cheated to gain that advantage and been allowed to get away with it, Bournemouth as an example

I am making a general observation about pp, not just in relation to City. That they give relegated teams an unfair advantage over the rest of the championship. To just say well those are the rules is not really addressing the point. I’m making the point that imo they need looking at, (actually I think they are being looked at). As I said in another post I understand the concept of them, but they aren’t working as they were meant to, and need to be improved upon.

Clubs gamble on getting to the Premiership.
They should take the hit with no PP if relegated.

They can't have it both ways.

I think the tricky part is, once you get to the prem, to stay in it, you need to buy better players and try to hold on to the ones you got.. prem prices and wage bills are a lot higher than the rest.. most players won’t move unless it’s at least for 3 years, you could put in a clause if you go down.. it’s what’s ever accepted..
if you’re relegated you’re paying prem wages still.. isn’t that what killed Portsmouth?
It is all about getting there in the first place, which we are unable to do!!

Your missing the point about pp its their money. Nothing unfair about that its their prize. You think they will give up that pie because the unsuccessful chump clubs like Bristol City think its unfiar? ??? nah nah nah thats not the real world they work exactly how they were meant to keeping the money in the premiership club and if you drop out you get a bit for x and that stops if you dont get back.

Blackpool Bournemouth, Brentford, Burnley, Cardiff and many many more have been up there getting their rewards. It was unfair for them as well but they had a bit of the success cake and its cash. Thats football.

If you’re happy with the status quo that’s fair enough. I agree with Redprint.

They were relegated because they spent the cash unwisely, on crap if you like.
Why should we, and other clubs in the Championship suffer through their mismanagement ?

The present parachute payment system is not unfair - it's only unfair if you believe your personal failure is due to them.

Parachute payments are paid for specific use. They cannot to be used for balance sheet debt reduction and are paid to support high contractual wage committments that are demanded at Premier League level. The only way to eliminate them would be for every Premeier League player contract to contain a mandatory clause reducing the clubs ongoing wage committments in the event of relegation.

The problem with that would be players would be very reluctant to join clubs seen to be in danger of relegation and the quality out there would polarise even more toward the top clubs. That would increase the already established set of yo yo clubs like Norwich and Brom - there'd be an even more two tiered Prem League divide than already exists now.

Question eg Burnley get 3 years parachute payments ... so do they get the full amount of money for season 21/22 when they finished 18th [relegated ] and now 3 payments for 22/23...23/24... 24/25? ... norwich / watford get 22/23 & 23/24 ... ?

If we ever get there, I think your opinion will change. The biggest yo-yo clubs such as Norwich & West Brom struggle..

Correct. Norwich and Watford came straight back down after being promoted the previous season so forfeit the 3rd year para payment as a result.

true but not the way most is utilised .... teams shed a couple high contract players so they can retain the payment to the majority of others ... they then get the advantage of new season income to buy in replacement players.

how much do relegated teams pay their top 30 players? Cardiff was exposed in one of the seasons they were promoted as being the lowest in the Prem [ equal in total to a couple of the top paid players !!] upon relegation therefore they should not have got the full whack .. but they did! ....

We won't nor will my opinion.

There was a time, we were there, when City had a chance to be promoted.
Now we, and many other clubs, have no chance.
That maybe is how the system operates but I believe it intrinsically unfair.

Don't understand your logic. The formula for parachute payments is the same for all teams no matter what contractual obligations of individual clubs.

Are you saying because Cardiff or anyone else for that matter had a low wage bill than others, they should have recieved less in para payments?

Personally think Cardiff should get less just because the are Cardiff, plus cost of living is lower in Wales. <laugh><laugh>

Bristol City have been failing to match Millwall and Preston.
