Popular sports personalities are the lords and ladies of my world. I care nothing for those who buy their titles. I would be happy to see former city players like ian ashbee, nick barmby and dennis booth among many others recieve a freedom of the city award
A few old team photos but enlarged, like the above on the concourses instead of 'Hull City cannot be coloured in' and other meaningless 5hite like we have at the moment would do for me.
Remember Jimmy McGill ( RIP ) from the early 70s under Terry Neill. He must of played alongside Kenny Knighton by then though memory is scetchy. His Udder's career was before my City time though but would imagine he played with names like Worthington & Cherry who went on to a higher level.
Gordon Nisbet was another favourite of mine at that time. Good to talk to. Took it in good heart when us inThe Well sang Jilted John’s song in his honour. Deservedly got a great reception when he returned to BP as an opposing player.
Am I mixing him up with someone else, or didn't he end up being a copper in Plymouth or somewhere south coast?
Remember him playing for Udders with their fans on Bunkers chanting McGill, McGill McGill McGill McGill to the tune of Hi Ho It’s Off To Work We Go.
Yes, he played for quite a long time for Argyle then Exeter and then had a season as Argyle caretaker manager after which he joined Devon and Cornwall police.
One Tash,John Hawleys thinking about it and Noel Edmunds in goal has forgotten to shave for 3 months...
Blast from the 70s past that. Our kid knew Pete Daniel well. Went to Wolves and Sunderland from memory.
It was early in the 66/67 season after the classic '66 promotion. We also beat Northampton 6-1 three days earlier (or later) to put us top of Division 2 and there was a little cartoon of that glorious week in the next home game's programme. It really looked like we were heading for consecutive promotions but our usual weaknesses in defence came back to bite us as Cliff Britton seemed to have a blind spot when it came to defensive recruitment. Ian McKechnie was a popular keeper but in hindsight he was shocking and nowhere near good enough for that team.
He opened/ran/owned a sports shop down Holderness Road for a while. I asked him if he had a mags kit as my nephew was mad keen on Newcastle. He had to order it in. Decent bloke. Was he at Wolves the same time as another local kid, Mike Matthews? Ps. Nisbet was originally a goalkeeper, who converted to a decent full back.
First visit in years today. Last minute decision. With the temperature being as hot as it is, are we allowed to bring drinks into the stadium? Non alcoholic
