I wanted another source for interference with Mueller in compiling his report and found this statement by former federal prosecutors.. "We are former federal prosecutors. We served under both Republican and Democratic administrations at different levels of the federal system: as line attorneys, supervisors, special prosecutors, United States Attorneys, and senior officials at the Department of Justice. The offices in which we served were small, medium, and large; urban, suburban, and rural; and located in all parts of our country." https://medium.com/@dojalumni/statement-by-former-federal-prosecutors-8ab7691c2aa1
Except trump on the ballot is potentially the only way the democrats win in 2024. He would still be enough to create an anti-trump vote that I don’t expect desantis to generate. Even if their policies end up being similar It’s not in the democrats interest to remove the spectre of trump. Republicans want him to hold off on announcing his run until post midterms because if he announced before it could backfire on them
You sound very certain about a very uncertain situation. Biden’s insane policies may have created many new Trump fans. You never know what will happen. He won before.
It wasn’t written to come across as certain. You seem certain that new trump fans have been created - is there polling? I’d expect his numbers are similar and biden’s are lower. Which isn’t the same What is more likely is more Republican voters have been created. Or anti-dem / anti-Biden. This is not the same as “more trump”. Indeed there I am sure there has been Republican polling showing him as getting less popular and maybe not even the guaranteed front runner. Which is daft because it assumes that if he announces the others wouldn’t pull out (which they would)
I am totally uncertain. My opinion is that yes, Biden will have pushed more people to vote republican. But genuinely no idea what will happen next. I don’t trust any of them to have integrity or do what’s right for the country. (Same as here)
I'm not entirely sure that's true. It was very efficiently spun (by Barr amongst others) to suggest there was nothing to it but the Mueller report itself was damning. Vin
Yeah pretty much this. And the post above from Os shows that the spin really did work. If a Democrat AG stepped in an did such an obvious heavy-handed spin job on an investigation then anyone to the right of centre would be screaming bloody murder (and for all I know probably have). Indeed, they are freaking out over him signing off on a search warrant that would surely have had to be pretty cast iron and apparently related to Trump having documents with nuclear secrets in his home. So there is that
Even by Os's standards, this is pure, unadulterated nonsense. The AG is Merrick Garland. Merrick Garland had absolutely nothing to do with Epstein. Nothing at all. He was a federal judge in the DC circuit at that time. Epstein was long since dead by the time he became AG. For someone who is constantly railing against misinformation, I've rarely seen someone who produces so many complete falsehoods that could be disproven with a cursory Google search.
But even if it was true - what relevance would it have? Discrediting him I guess? But seriously if he had significant Epstein related skeletons wouldn’t they have come up either when he was put forward for the Supreme Court (much better excuse than what the republicans actually used) or his AG confirmation hearing ?
Of course it would have come up. There's just literally no connection whatsoever between Epstein and Garland. None has ever even been suggested. Their paths never intersected. Usually Os's disinformation has a recognizable throughline beginning with some fact and then spiraling off into utter twaddle, but I genuinely can't even figure out where this one came from. This appears to be an Os original.
It really is some world where boring centrists like Garlands and Biden are being turned into boogeymen by anyone who is to the right of centre
Well.. it did get thrown out. They accused him of being a criminal and it was found that he isnt a criminal... Trump just posted saying that Barack Obama also had classified documents after his presidency and that this is a witch hunt. Which may be true also. I don’t really trust anything to do with American politics so it’s hard to know. I guess you have to hope that the AG/justice system is working correctly and not being weaponised against a political opponent.
That's not at all what happened. It absolutely isn't true. Trump is referring to Obama's presidential library. All documents in his presidential library went through approval by the appropriate agency to ensure that nothing in there was classified or otherwise protected, as they did for every other president. He didn't ****ing stick classified documents in a box in his ****ing basement because who does that.
I guess it depends on your definition of "thrown out". The report was published and was white washed by a pro-Trump AG (who should have acted more independently). As already posted above the report absolutely does not exonerate him. But Barr chose to drop everything and write a summary that was the equivalent of a a big broom sweeping things under the carpet I guess this must be where all the fear that the AG/Justice department is too political is coming from - Barr's overtly political actions where he put defending Trump over the law. And so Trump and Republicans just assume that MUST be what the Democrat AG / Justice Department are doing. It doesn't even occur to them that they might be acting with integrity. They might not be by the way. But they could be (and I'd suggest, mostly likely are). I'd take anything Trump posts about Obama with the most enormous scoop of salt you can possibly imagine. This is Mr "Show me your birth certificate". Remember? That is how he got his start in Republican politics. Given how the Republicans treated Clinton over her emails and Benghazi do you really think they would have just let something like that slide for Obama? It doesn't pass the scratch and sniff test
But of course the average Trump supporter will either not understand the nuance or just choose to ignore it even if they do
I don’t know enough to confidently say either way really. But I will say that it seems odd that if these documents are so important, it’s taken months to arrest him and make it a big deal.. and it’s happened right before the mid terms and the next Presidential runs start. I guess the question is what’s more likely; the political old guard hate trump enough to pull some strings and get him indicted? Or is trump truly a criminal that’s out to destroy America?
It took months because they tried not to make a big deal of it! They: - Asked for them back. - Got a grand jury subpoena to demand them back when he wouldn't return them. - Went on site, recovered (some) documents, but others appear to have been concealed. - Got tipped off that he still had classified information some time recently. - Obtained a search warrant to retrieve them. They did everything possible to avoid this, but couldn't, because he's Donald fking Trump.
On that last question - based on Trump’s actions throughout his presidency (most notably right at the end) and his life prior to that then the most likely answer is absolutely option 2. No doubt in my mind. I’m surprised that is a serious question
Trump isn't out to destroy America. He's just an authoritarian narcissist who believes that the law should not apply to him, and that he should be able to apply the law however he sees fit to others. Destroying America would just be a side effect of Trump's continued presence in American politics. Most parasites don't seek to kill their host; that's bad for the parasite. But it still happens. Also, NARA (which maintains presidential records) has refuted the idiotic OBAMA STOLE 30 MILLION DOCUMENTS thing:
