Whilst Leeds will be brimming with confidence following their 2-1 win over Wolves, Southampton's recent form doesn't stand them in good stead. Their 4-1 away loss at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium last weekend was their fifth in the row. They have only won once in the past eleven games. A heavy defeat at St Mary's could spell the end of Ralph Hasenhuttl's four year (nearly) tenure. Dan James could return to action on Saturday having missed the Wolves game due to suspension. Luis Sinisterra (Hamstring) and Liam Cooper (Achilles) are both back in full training and may make the bench. Midfielder Adam Forshaw is a week behind, but should be in contention for the Chelsea game. Junior Firpo has resumed light duties whilst Luke Ayling continuous to work hard with Rob Price following knee surgery at the back end of last season. It is unlikely that Jesse Marsch will tinker too much with the starting line up that beat Wolves and Calgiari. Dan James' impressive form during pre-season may be his only change. Saints will be without Tino Livramento (knee), Theo Walcott (unfit following lay off) and former Leeds target Romain Perraud (broken foot). Nathan Tella has returned to training, following a knee injury. It remains to be seen whether the young striker will be fit in time to face the Whites.
Last season they beat us in the corresponding game so if we got a draw it would still be progress however a win is well within our reach-in my opinion
We Couldnt be playing them at a better time are we were awful against them last year, great opportunity to win two on a bounce here and I think we will
Saints are usually very good at home and especially so in the first half. Could be a re-run of last Saturday then...weather the storm and then when the opposition run out of ideas and start to fade we hit them hard and take all 3 points
Yup, we were lucky to get nil last year. Hopefully we can seize on their lack of confidence. I think a point would be a good return but I’m a greedy fecker and want all 3. Especially with Chelsea to follow and then a trip to Brighton… it would be good to get more points on the board.
This is a game we should be winning if we’re thinking of stress free mid table mediocrity this season. I seriously think Southampton could be going so we do not want to be dropping points against them
Southampton finished 12th last season in the home form table...winning 6 and drawing 7 (GD -1) We finished 12th in the away form table...winning 5 and drawing 5 (GD -18) Hoping for a win but I'd say it's quite a tough ask with a draw being a very decent result.
I think they’re worse than last season and in a bit of free fall. I could easily be wrong but if we want a season without relegation fears we need to be beating teams like this.
To be honest I'd happily take a draw but a win is more preferably. If we do win it gives us a comfort zone that we need going in to Chelsea. Let's face it were in a better position than we were last year.
Fair enough but my view is Southampton did enough to stay up fairly early on and it was only the late season pick up from Burnley & Everton that gave them very minor relegation concerns. When we played them at home on 2nd April they we're in 10th position and whilst they definitely took their foot of the gas for the remainder of the season they still beat Arsenal a couple of weeks after playing us and then gave Liverpool a proper game in the penultimate match. Yes they lost a few games at the end of the season when they couldn't be arsed but it's an exaggeration that they're in decline.
I feel three points is within our grasp, a point would be okay. I also think now is a good time to be playing Southampton.
Obviously whatever points we can get are great in any match but primarily i want to see a positive performance to back up last week.. If the side looks competitive, over the season results will look after themselves. We gave an encouraging 60 minute performance last week with some promising signs but, let's be honest, a few worrying ones as well. Certainly more positives than negatives, particularly our spirit - the reaction to going behind and our ability to rest control back after the substitutions. Clearly we're a work in progress, let's hope to continue to see progress.
I really like the thought of a win, but is it me that only thinks we often catch sides looking to rebound after a really poor result. It happened quite a bit last season and we weren’t good enough to take advantage of opponents supposed poor form. I’m encouraged by much of what we witnessed last week, but Wolves were toothless up top. Think the side will settle as the season progresses, but so will most of the others. The atmosphere our fans create when we travel away, means there are rarely any easy games. Teams still generally up their performance when we visit. Feel it’s winnable, hope we do so, but for the reasons given I wouldn’t be surprised if it was a draw. MOT
If we can contain their counters, we have every chance of winning. I hope we don't go gung ho and run out of puff like we did last Saturday in the 2nd half. my worry is us leaving massive gaps when we attack. Contain them early doors get the crowd against them then we always have that chance of doing something as we are surely going to create chances. they are the home team let them take the risks.
Said it loads of times already ut we only have to be slightly better than last season to finish up with Southampton, Brighton and Palace. Fact is that we are already better than last season so going for an easy win 0-3 to Leeds and way outside the danger zone
I wonder how many teams last season or opposing fans felt this way when facing us after a thumping only for us to get walloped again. I think the Premier League has proved time and time again, don’t take anything for granted
