First thread for a year or two. However i have to vent somewhere, is Curtis Nelson the absolute worst defender we have had on our books in the last 15 years, i certainly think so, he cannot head the ball to any great affect, he is slow in the tackle, he has no distribution at all, what he does have is £14k a week in wages. I hope he never plays another game for us, he cost us dearly against Reading and his display against Pompey was unbelievably worse. Any thoughts ?
Don't disagree isaw and welcome back. His 3 years with us have been a mixture, sometimes good, mopping up behind bigger centre backs, getting in blocks and short passing out but heading ability poor, any passes over 10 yards forget it, and on occasions like last night playing like he's been in the pub all afternoon. Denham needed an experienced defender for guidance and advice and he did not provide it. Instead he made 2 serious cock ups and they scored. The new guy, Simpson, is a left sided cb so I hope he can slot in pronto and relieve Nelson of ANY duties.
Never mind Truly Scrumptious, he is Truly awful and should be whisked off into the ether in the Chitty Chitty Bang Bang car. Oooooo i am annoyed. Nice to be back though guys.
Prior to Morison taking charge, Nelson was regarded as the "footballing option" of the back 3 sluggers, the other two being Morro and Flint with only the eratic McGuinness being an option. Since we've morphed into a straight back four, he's become a bit part player who only got the nod in the middle because of NG's one game ban. I honestly think he's quick enough over the ground and his committment has never been questioned throwing his body on the line, but he knows the writing is on the wall. He almost tried too hard against Reading only to f'ck things up giving away the penalty, and last night he was abysmal looking desperate to redeem himself only to f'ck things up again. The guy is likeable off the pitch and comes across as a pretty decent club professional, but with the permanent acquisition of Simpson and the existing presence of Kipre, Ng and Denham as an option (McGuinness is an accident waiting to happen), he can go - but I still think he's capable of far better than we've seen this season from him. The point is do we hang about waiting for him to produce when (if?) he gets the chance?
Simpson unlikely to be considered Saturday as he has not had a pre-season and only 45 minutes of football. https://www.walesonline.co.uk/sport...kCopy&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=sharebar That being the case I can only hope Alfa (nice one Sparks) is fit to play so Ng and Kipre are our cb's. I have no arguments about Nelson's personality but as a footballer he has failed us badly twice in three games. We can't afford that.
