I think where this squad is, injuries etc, apart from people not in the first team getting a game and a little revenue, not a bad thing being clear of it.
I know last night was crap but the game turned on 2 individual errors. McLoughlin lost his man for the 1st and Wilks for the 2nd. The issue/major worry is we don't create much. However, with 2 new wingbacks and some creative players that should change
No idea why Callum Jones didn't come on for Covil, I'd have switched him into the starting eleven just based on his three finishes in the warm-up.
My biggest concern is that he cannot answer simple questions which appears to be a result of misunderstanding them so how on earth are we expecting him to communicate with his players? It is not his fault that English is not his first language but if this is an issue why was this not considered at the time of appointing him? There will be young players that are relying on a lot of coaching and we have someone who seems to be struggling to understand what someone has said to him. The fact we did not seem to have an idea of what we wanted last night is another concern. If we are not bothered then play the kids. If we are bothered then play our first team and rest 5 of them in the second half when they show signs of being fatigued. We appeared to have a pre-planned formula for changing players including putting people totally out of position just to give them some game time. I do that at Under 8s to ensure none of the parents moan at me! I like the guy, I also think it must be hard working for someone like Acun who wants to be all over the place disrupting your plans but after watching Preston and Bradford this week I have to admit I am starting to think he may be struggling to get his message across. The players look confused.
I’ve always wondered even before he was officially appointed whether a language barrier would be an issue with the squad. He actually speaks decent English but his interviews leave me confused just because of the vague riddles he comes out with a thick Georgian accent on top. We don’t seem to have a cohesive style of football imprinted during his time here. Even **** managers have a recognised style of play but with Shota, I don’t see it.
It appeared to me that Shota seemed to be arguing or blaming Allahyar at the end of the game the way he was waving his arms around.
We clearly value possession very highly, it's come up numerous times with interviews with Tan & Shota especially. We just need to do more with it. Any possession based system last year wouldn't work, we had midfielders who couldn't keep the ball and we've still got many players within the squad who can't be considered as technically great. It's going to be a work in progress and take time but the same people who have had the rebuild will take time are now starting to criticise. We're 3 games in and unbeaten in the league. It just seems premature. I think all the new signings have looked decent, so it's not like we've purchased crap. The issue is the players who were here previously
It seems to be more effective against sides who press. Bradford didn’t press at all last night and we couldn’t break down their front line who just marked our wing backs as our centre halves wouldn’t pass to the midfielders. Hopefully as we get sharper and the previous regime players get onto the wave length of the new boys it should hopefully materialise into better performances. Big few weeks in the transfer window ahead
Feels a bit like we have ourselves an Ole Gunner Solskjaer. When Marco Silva was appointed, immediately everyone knew we have a proper manager here and he was/is, I think most peoples instincts about Shota are probably correct as big of a shame as that is. He is a nice guy and I like the way he's taken to the city, so I really do hope he can prove me wrong.
I’m always concerned about the language barrier. It’s one of those things that doesn’t get talked about due to accusations of discrimination etc. However, I have a feeling Shota is a lot more than people give him credit for. Actions speak louder than words and I think last night was about fitness and not actually wanting to go through (we have enough games already!). It was also a test for the fringe players, to see if they were up to standard. I think the next set of games will be the big test. At the end of the day, we have taken 4 points so far in the league, which is a fantastic start, all things considered. All this talk of Shota not being the right man is ludicrous. It’s a good job people on here do not own the football club. We’d be much worse than Watford! I think at the end of the day, we should be thankful of how things are going. If a few months down the line, we are bottom of the league with no hope, then by all means, ‘I told you so’ will be fair enough. But right now, after a successful start to the season, it just doesn’t sit right. We need to get behind the manager, the team, the owner etc and give them a chance. Shota In.
When you own a football club you're on the inside and are privy to the types of decisions you're only making assumptions about.
Why not a straight swop Tetteh for Covil who is not good enough for championship football can't believe he played the full ninety minutes,, needs to play in the under 23's at the moment.
