Don’t want to get carried away after one game but it was a hell of a debut, has all of the attributes to have excellent career
I've seen the word used plenty across social media about him. My comment wasn't aimed at you or the context in which you used it.
Simms came, knowing he may be fighting for a place with Stewart and Broadhead ... ... that's the kind of player I want to see at Sunderland tbh.
This though, is top level competitive sport we are on about. Those in it may well be prone to the same anxieties as all of us, but the need to be free of them is much greater. Hence, by natural selection, very few make it at a high level with any of these issues The language use to express this might be short and occasionally inappropriate, but the point will always hold; you are far less likely to do well if you are mentally weaker than most, and the same goes for any team you play for. Strength of mind is as important as running speed or skills.
Be nice if he can carry that form on at the weekend. I read with interest that QPR have a few injuries and if we can get 3 pts on Sat it will be a hell of a start to the season https://the72.co.uk/2022/08/10/qpr-boss-reveals-triple-injury-blow-ahead-of-sunderland-clash/
Vlasic off to Italy on loan from West Ham. West Ham bought him last year for £30m. They will obviously lose loads on him financially. Where is the accountability for failure of this level. I suspect there isnt much by way of recriminations for anyone involved in buying him. It is an example of the madness of the premier league and an ugly thing. Somehow there needs to be a mechanism for making those failing at their jobs when making signings like this to feel a bit of pain as a result. I doubt it will even be a question asked of Moyes - it has become such a norm. Far too much money in the premier league means mistakes worth tens of millions of pounds arent worth questioning.
Fancy us to give most sides a good game especially at home, get into them early and don’t let them settle, a new signing or 2 this week would be nice too if I’m being greedy
Half puts me off ever wanting to be there again but then what are we playing for if the goal isn’t ultimately promotion down the line
I definitely recall about this about the comment that if he didn't feel 100% , he would not play... If thats true, then we should have passed over him. We have had far too many sick notes or players with other issues, money, mental, just down right lazy over the past 30 odd years or so.
Whilst i agree with your comments regarding mental health, if he doesn't have the mental strength to want to fight for a place then he's not the player we need. Mental toughness for want of a better phrase is often the difference between a good athlete and a great athlete. Infact it probably applies to all professions.
Bit of an odd one that. As I've said on here before my wife and her side of the family are all season-ticket holding Hammers so I get to see quite a bit of them. Vlasic didn't hit the ground running but their fans were excited about signing him and he had some good games, mainly in the Europa League. They seemed to have a lot of players who could play in the same positions as him though. On the occasions I saw him, I thought he looked decent. I thought he was a Moyes-type player too. Seems crazy that they would be letting a player they paid that much for go after only playing 19 games. Transfer fees are so overinflated now though which I think makes it seem so much worse.
