I’m not sure bottler is apt mind. He hasn’t got much room to manoeuvre and wants to make the Wales squad. If he has chosen Wigan as opposed to us thinking he has more chance of making the World Cup squad, that suggests the opposite. I think if there was no World Cup in a few months, his decision may have been the opposite. We will never know, he never hid on the pitch though

There is also the chance Broadhead may get injured his first game for them, and be out for the season, then we can all say OH dear me what a pity never mind , still he was a bit of a sick note so he saved us a proper place:emoticon-0136-giggl

this. I don't think he's bottled anything. if he was 21 maybe. but at this stage of his career the lad needs to be playing games. he's about to become the main striker at a level he's never played as high as before. thats not bottling.

I don’t remember it being like that, more that he was probably over cautious and I took it that he probably doubted what he was capable of playing despite being declared fit. Just opinion and my take on what was said of course

All in the interpretation isn’t it. I took it that he was probably considered fit but was cautious/worried about committing to a full game. Could be either or, it just struck me that this might be what people refer to when they question his mindset/ mental strength

this is a major decision for broadhead mind, he is at the stage of his career where he really needs the game time to push on, at least if he was here we all know what he is capable of so he would always be in AN's thoughts, i worry if he does not hit the ground running at wigan he could easily be frozen out, not as if they are short of strikers...if there is a wee bit of a 'right mentallity' problem then this really could be the completely wrong move for the lad, hopefully not as i would like to see him do well in the game.

I don’t agree mate, he had an opportunity to play for one of the biggest clubs in English football and be part of what could be a defining era in our history. He could have came in grafted his arse off and got in the team and possibly had a crack at making us premier league again. He’s took the easy option to potentially earn a sub spot on the Wales bench at the World Cup. He should have backed himself and put himself on our pitch and said go on drop me if you dare. He’s bottled it.

Really don't understand a loan when he is this age, and has very little experience in men's football.

He's not going to break in to Everton's first team at 25 next season.

A permanent move should have been his only consideration if it was us or someone else.

    RE: Broadhead
World Cup year and the lad has a chance of going if hes playing regular.
Not guaranteed to play everyweek with us so gone elsewhere, dont see the problem myself.

I’d question his choice in team in that will Wigan play to his strengths the way we did? Have they got a Prichard who will pick him out with a ‘killer pass’. He not only needs to play but needs to score regular good luck to the lad!

He was in Everton’s u23’s 6 years ago - with Dominic Calvert-Lewin. He’s still in the u23’s and has played less than 40 games of football all at league one level whilst DCL has played 150 odd PL games, if that doesn’t tell you all you need to know…

Done a job for us last season and that’s all there is to it, just be thankful that he helped push us to promotion and give the lad an ovation when we play them. Why he chose Wigan doesn’t matter - In my opinion I think it’s probably to do with Everton pushing him that way because we wanted a permanent deal. People need to stop going on like we’ve lost a good player.

All the talk was that we wouldn’t offer what he wanted due to injuries etc. could it simply be his deal with Wigan + Everton topping it up added up to more than he’d get here?

Let's face it broadhead was quality, when he was available. Sounds like he might've signed had it been before the weekend. Until Simms and Stewart did what they did. Lads got his own career to think about, good luck to him. Reading over the road things like bullet dodged because he's not good enough at this level, think that'll be bollocks personally and he'll be plenty good enough at this level, just injuries.

Personally I wouldn’t have wanted him on a permanent on anything other than a minimal contract with high performance bonuses.

thats a very Sunderland-centric view of the world, IMO.

We aren't such a large pull that players who are desperate to play would rather come here to fight for their place rather than go somewhere they can play more often and prove week in week out they deserve to be a premier league player.

Just opinions of course. He's gone to a side who were better than us last season with a talented and respected young manager. Lets not pretend we are an absolute no-brainer for a player who DESPERATELY needs a full season on the pitch, not watching.

One could very easily argue that coming to the club he was on loan at despite being unlikely to break into the first team was "bottling it" instead of going and being the main man somewhere.

Isn't there a rule anyway that you can't loan 2 players from same club? People saying Forest can't get Garner on loan from Utd as they have Henderson. Therefore we showed our hand when we signed Sims on loan.
