Leno’s transfer to Fulham now officially confirmed by both Fulham and Arsenal Twitter accounts. Although I’m partly still in disbelief that we’ve sold a decent quality goalkeeper for £4m, reports from The Athletic are saying he was only interested in staying in London. He flat out rejected Leicester’s interest and wasn't interested in a move abroad. Fulham were the sole London club in for him, he had 1 year left on his contract and so we had very little bargaining power here. From our perspective, not ideal. But I’m glad for him that he got his move. Good luck to you at Fulham, Bernd. A good servant and exemplary professional.
I thought Leno went for £8m ? Still a low fee for a very decent keeper. But as I said the other day, happy to move these players on if it means we can strengthen in other areas.
As I said, we weren’t in a strong position. He had 1 year left on his contract and rejected moves to better clubs just to stay in London. I don’t think he has high career ambitions in that sense, I think he just wanted a move to a decent club in a city he’s comfortable in. Good luck to him.
Yeah was hard to tell with Mari he was kinda hit and miss with his performances. But Saliba, White, Gabriel, Holding and Tomiyasu can all play CB so we are fairly strong in this position.
Thought he was pretty decent in the games he did have for us. But like you say, we have better options at CB now, so Mari is surplus to requirements
Reims officially announcing Balogun’s joined them on loan. Hope he does well out there. I have high hopes for this kid.
Hadn’t seen this til you posted it. I think for them to tweet this more or less implies they believe he’d be convicted had legislation not been different at the time. Can’t see them tweeting as such if they felt the woman’s claims were unsubstantiated. Very grim.
Hoping (and according to reports) that once we get these fringe players off of our books, we'll move for another player.
Some info on our loanees. Marseille beat Reims 4-1 today. Nuno Tavares scored a belter for Marseille’s 2nd goal and Folarin Balogun got the consolation goal for Reims. Glad to see they’ve both had a solid start in France.
I know we're not getting any returns on these players, but as I said before, it's just good to get them off the books, free up the wages, and create room in the squad for a couple of quality additions.
I think we got €7m + a few add-ons for Torreira, which isn’t much, but yeah, he was on £75k per week and now he’s off the books, so frees up that squad space and gives us more wiggle room on the wages front for a better player.
