I just think with in you can effectively play 2 players higher as a result (the wing backs). Our 2 strikers clearly need crosses and Tetteh has shown his ability in the box, Oscar not so much but hasn’t had any service yet. I think Seri’s ability to break the lines next to a sitter who covers the gaps left by wing backs pushing higher would make us arguably as creative as using a 10, Smallwood did it so well for us last season and Slater did although not as well what Seri does. Preston did it to us at the weekend. They had Whiteman sitting alone, mobile and good on the ball allowing Browne and Johnson to play as 2 8s and then Brady and Potts pushed right up too. Add to that 2 strikers that’s 6 players in and around the box
I think we need another CB as well, especially if we’re sticking with 3 starting CBs as that leaves us with only McLoughlin as back up. Unless Mills is deemed good enough for the first team I suppose.
This 2/3 new players talk worries me. Tonight once again proves that we've no strength in depth at all. You could really make a case for us looking for another 7/8 no matter how unreasonable it is
What was unreasonable was ripping the core of the squad out. Everyone knew we needed change but we’ve seemingly only changed the wrong players so far. Smallwood, Honeyman still yet to be replaced on the pitch let alone off it on present evidence
I’m not including Doc in this mind as he’s shown when played advanced he’s more than capable at this level unlike Cannon who’s best game for us was tonight
That’s rubbish. I watched him run the midfield at Fulham away last season, Forest away. He’s not a sitter never has been yet that’s where he was played for the most part last season.
The next three games are against possibly the best teams in the division. If we get anything more than 1 point we've done incredibly well, my worry is that once teams score against us, we just tend to fold like a deck of cards. We didn't on opening day, but that felt like an exception to the rule rather than a turning point.
We'll have to see. There's been bits to like but we just haven't got the balance quite right yet. It'd be a big lift to get maybe a RB and an attacking midfielder in before the weekend
Ermmmm against Bristol allayhar played lwb and against Preston. Tonight tetteh seemed to play left, wilks kept running the ball out of play on the right
I wish we'd have played Allahyar at wing back tonight. He was completely starved of possession first half. I still don't know what his best position is. He's not a lone centre forward, nor is he a natural winger, so he's an awkward one Tetteh is meant to be able to play wide left fairly comfortably and I thought he looked decent.
I couldn’t fathom why he brought a 6’4 striker on tonight and played him on the left whilst leaving a young lad like Covil who was struggling all game to lead the forward line.
