And no doubt someone will have made a few quid and be wanting it to continue.

Not really we've been discussing this since it made the media.
Think it's more people these days don't like being told no in whatever situation they're in.
Think of the bed space and money these people have wasted not only to the NHS but the court system.
Yes it's tragic, but mum doesn't always know what's best for her child, and if you think having a pop at Smug for having a different view point to yours is clever well it's not.
Don't often have a go at others on here but your out of order here Arnhem imo.

Me and Smug often have a pop at each other. Don't worry about it and don't get yourself in such a frenzy. It's a Sunday morning. Relax.

What some people don’t seem to understand is the lad was dead before they switched the machine off. I think if you are the parents you don’t want to believe that. Nobody has killed him the little lad killed himself.

Wrong again and trite as usual.

I occasionally disagree with your opinions although I try to avoid you, when I post it's about the thread topic. You, on the other hand, ignore the subject and have a pop at me. Please don't try to include me in your infantile little game and worn out Internet stupidity.

You derail threads like this with no regard for the subject, climb on your high horse and show no actual respect for the topic ....

.... and now you'll come back with your usual smiley or idiotic backchat.

Can't help feeling the blaming of an Internet craze was the mother clutching at straws. If the lad tried to kill himself, rightly or wrongly, her case for keeping him 'alive' would have gained less sympathy from the general public and from the courts. The way the media have been stating that the mother 'believes' he died due to a craze and not stating it as fact, reading between the lines, it seems even the media think he probably killed himself on purpose. Then again, I might be totally wrong, just a hunch. I can understand the mother not wanting to pull the plug herself like, for selfish reasons. Maybe now that she has explored every avenue she will now be able to continue with her life and not have the lingering doubt or guilt. I have no idea how I would react in this situation.I also have sympathy for the doctors and nurses involved too.

I lost my wife in 2005 and was given the chat by the medical consultants and from their advice I chose the do not resuscitate option. I don't feel guilty but have continous sadness. And I always think what if......

Sadly, this tik tok craze is a killer. I know a lad whose son died last year as a result of it. It's a version of the auto-asphyxiation thing, although it seems the younguns don't do it for the erotic buzz ( that killed Michael hutchence and David carradine) it's just the challenge to do it until you black out. Unfortunately they're doing it with ligatures which they can't loosen once they black out, and so they accidentally hang themselves ( because they don't intend to die)
However, I don't blame his family for their reluctance to turn him off, it's something that they are going through under extreme stress and pressure, and who knows if there's a 'right way' to react, each case is different, so it's unfair to judge them in my opinion. RIP young man, let's hope the publicity surrounding this case leads to sites like tik tok being stopped from peddling this poison.

No idea mate, I don't know how tiktok works, or much of the social media that the younguns use these days, it's way over my head. I'm not sure it's possible to police in real time, it's very scary.

Tik tok is a cess pit, it’s telling that it’s not accessible in the place it was developed. China. I would hope for an outright ban to be honest the dangerous stuff might be rare but the algorithms purposefully push it to impressionable kids who take it at face value and follow the bollocks that’s being spouted.

With regard to this thread, horrible for the parents but it isn’t normal to pursue it like this thankfully. I blame the internet, a quick search can give anyone hope in the most hopeless of circumstances. It’s about time the state stopped funding these cases and medical advice was listened to and adhered to. As sad as it is for the family they have dragged out their grief unnecessarily for 4 months in the vain hope that this kid was just going to wake up and be ok. That was never going to happen no matter where he was being treated or how or with what.

I totally agree with everything you said there.

My sister in law had an ancient Jack Russell dog that was obviously in great discomfort. It could only eat soft food, because it's teeth were rotten and she wheeled it out for 'walks' in a pushchair. I made the mistake of answering her honestly when she asked my opinion of Alfie ..

... thankfully the poor little bastard died shortly after.

People like her aren't the animal lovers they pretend to be, they're selfish and keeping the animal alive for their own benefit.

The family have been advised and represented in court by the Christian Legal Centre, the legal wing of the conservative Christian Concern For Our Nation organisation, which has links to very right wing evangelical Christian organisations and individuals in the USA. Their main aim is to push an evangelical Christian agenda in British life. They are anti abortion, anti birth control, anti divorce, anti LGBT rights, etc and pro a narrow conservative Christian interpretation of the bible. The CLC have fought about 50 legal cases, including the Alfie Evans case in 2018, and won only one of them. They seem to jump on cases like this, feeding on families grief, anger and confusion so they can push their agenda.

I'm not going to say too more, but this is a much more complex case than it appears on the surface. The poor kid does seem to have had mental health problems, was statemented by his local authority to get additional support in a specialist school due to his behaviour and stuff he reportedly posted on tok tok talked about him being depressed and lonely. He was rumoured to have been bullied due to being quite small and having an interest in gymnastics and MMA.

His mother has quite a checkered past herself, with rumours she changed her name to escape some of the stuff surrounding her, including convictions for assault. As you say her story about how she found him and even his wishes has changed quite a few times.

When you research into this case it does get more complex, but nether the less its a tragedy that this young boy has lost his life, whatever the circumstances that caused it. I just hope that it's not used by others to benefit themselves at his expense

Exactly, it becomes more for their own benefit the longer it is dragged on they become more and more fearful of coping with the inevitable loss that will occur if they make the correct decision and are unable to realise that the loss has already occurred because the (dog/rabbit/human) has already gone and will never be back.
