Completely agree. Hojbjerg looked very good in his first season but [cue a long rant about Mourinho's defensive system]. Since then, when asked to be a tiny little bit more expansive, his choices are often bad. He always gives his all and fans like that, but I think he'll lose his place to Bissouma who has proved at Brighton that he can do the defensive work but with more guile when he gets a chance to go forward. Even if not, I'd prefer Skipp.
She was fantastic in TV series like The Singing Detective, Edge Of Darkness, and A Kind Of Loving (ITV remake - or was it Channel 4? Great tits! So probably C4). Can't blame her for trying her luck in Hollywood but she seemed to make a series of bad decisions there, starting with marrying Val Kilmer.
He was #2 in the PL for G+A/minute last season...and must be #1 this season, for that matter. He was also #1 at dribbling into the box/minute last year. Yes, FBRef really compiles that stat. You do wonder how he always manages to be just where he wants to be with the ball. According to the numbers, and from what I've seen, he's one of the best players in the league right now. But only Spurs fans that know that. Emerson, Sessegnon and Dier contributing to goals will help the front three by distracting attention from them a bit. I thought Sessegnon had what might be a breakthrough game, one where he showed he used to be a high scoring forward. I'm not convinced Emerson will ever be a really good fit for Conte, but I'm starting to get my hopes up a little. In any case, he's a top level athlete, and Conte wants a team that has the upper hand. It also should be mentioned that Sessegnon could have been sent off, and Emerson got a 9 from the judges while washing the chlorine off. Chilwell only got a 7.5, though the way his legs suddenly stopped working in mid air was charming. And he, unlike Emerson, sold the officials on his act. Hojbjerg was poor again, but I agree the numbers may show he's underrated. I'm not sure how many other defense-first midfielders do nearly as much to help the attack. The back three were all pretty good, but didn't have that much to do. Son and Kane were off. Bentancur was good, as usual.
I was at the match yesterday. Kulu is a joy to watch. Benny, what a strong and assured player. we have some gems in our squad. What a fantastic start. harry nearly scored from the half way line too
& a word on Hoj. Think he is great to have our in squad. But knowing we have Bissouma now - I feel he has to be secondary to that man. As we are looking to push on and get top 3.
Sonny’s decision making is his only hinderance to reaching the next level. Kane has been putting them on a plate for him for the last few years…he should have made that pass to Kane. That’s how you create the Salah/Mane type of friction if you not careful Anyway…great start to the season The real test of where we are comes at the Bridge next imo
Random question - can you take a 1 year old to a match with you (under your one seat?) He’s been too a couple of ladies matches and loved it. Think it’s time he stepped up. (in terms of attendance just to clarify).
My lad went to his 1st game at 18 months but it was a league cup game v Crewe with attendance of about 15,000 at WHL he slept through most of it but enjoyed train ride there
I saw HK have a go at him a couple of times during the game as did Kulu , decision making at times is his biggest draw back
One of our locals when we go ,my brothers favourite is the Barrel at Bude in the town centre , it has it's own record deck and you choose the music ( no mobiles allowed in the bar ) The Barge on the Canal Wharf is good for a breakfast or morning coffee after a stroll along the beach with the dog , it's a shame about the tree going over in the Triangle, it was a good meeting place Tree Inn , Stratton which is close to my brothers also nice place and good food
If there is sufficient depth/breadth in the squad, then "natural selection" will do the rest. Hojbjerg will either raise his game, or his starting XI forays will be governed by squad injuries / rotation or quality of opposition. Emerson is in a similar position, and yesterday he had a very lively game (which by default will force Doherty in turn to have to match that level the next starting XI slot he gets) ,
Son just needs to be shown footage of Kulu last season, who is a real "percentage" player when in attack. "The real test of where we are comes at the Bridge next imo" Kings Road FC always front up against Spurs.
I think Hojbjerg had a solid game yesterday. Felt like he won a load of tackles as per, one or two passes went astray but other than that he played well against his old side. Emerson’s shocking first half display was what cost us that first goal as his defending for it was shabby which is actually uncharacteristic for him as he’s generally solid, though he more than redeemed himself in the second half. All in all though Hojbjerg’s a very solid player in the squad. As others have said, if Bissouma adapts well and Skipp stays free from injury then you’d imagine at least one of those will overtake him but I have zero issues if Hojbjerg starts a large number of games and even keeps his spot, it’s his to lose and so far he’s not done a lot wrong to lose it. Our four CMs are all very good players and it’s the sort of quality in depth that Conte wants.
Along with talking about being at the club, Bissouma said this on his insta last night: “#YB38 only for this season” - with a face palm emoji. He definitely wants that number 8 shirt
I've done East Kent to North Warwickshire. Same time to drive, but Ashford to Seven Sisters can be done in an hour ten by train (HS1) & tube. Did you manage to sell up and pay off mortgage or buy a big F-off mansion?
