It's much better than I envisaged. I thought there was a real prospect we'd be bottom at the end of the month (still might of course but that is now much less likely) but with an eye on improving steadily into the autumn leading up to the World Cup. It's been a solid start nicely cushioning us into three very tough league games.
Think it's fair to say that the second half was the worst 45 minutes of football I have endured, which is disappointing as I was faintly optimistic after some of the play against Bristol-clearly mistaken. Figueredo looks really uncomfortable on the ball, Jones nearly gifted them two goals with ridiculous Hail Mary passes. We were not great at playing it out from the back but we must come backwards even when going forward and start again. The two strikers weren't working even in the first half, they spent a lot of time on the edge of our penalty area. I thought a definition of insanity/stupidity was repeating the same actions expecting a different result- what was Ingram doing punting the ball to Elder on the touchline repeatedly? We were so deep you might have suspected we were playing against Barcelona, but thankfully Preston were not that good otherwise we would have been severely drubbed. I hope that if Shota is not up to it the players are good enough to work it out for themselves.
If the second half is the worst 45mins you've ever seen then this must be your first season watching us.... Welcome
Reading some of the comments anyone would think we've had our pants pulled down. We've been to Preston and got a point. While we never troubled their keeper we defended with aplomb and held them at arms length. True, stiffer tests are on the horizon. I understand the governor wants a top 6 spot. So far so good. But let's be fair with ourselves. We'll have to show more endeavour going forward to achieve that.
I think we may have got out of our half on multiple occasions per 45 minutes during any fixture in the 90s
We had a nice spell when Covil and Allahyar were up front when we put our best crosses of the game in. Typical it was after the strikers went off mind!
It was a poor match. Preston were solid defensively and we never looked like scoring. They had the chances to win but they were incapable of finishing and Ingram was really good. The highlight for me was the rotund lady on the right who flaunted her flag during one of the many lengthy stoppages and drinks breaks. I thought the steward was trying to throw her out for her provocative behaviour but he was merely encouraging her to return to her mobility scooter!
In the first half i thought preston started well but as the game went on, we got stronger and at half time i thought we could win this. Second half we were chasing shadows and they should have won comfortably. Surprised not to see coyle get more mentions in the mom thread as i thought he was our most determined outfield player, just beating Allahyar to that accolade. As last week. Ingram kept us in it plus we had plenty of luck. Our team are well short of match fitness. I know the others are too, but preston looked faster and more comfortable on the ball. Plenty of work for our coaches to do, but a great start to the season.
True. I was surprised he took both off: I'd have left Oscar on, Tetteh seemed a bit of a powderpuff for such a big unit. But it's not the strikers' fault if they don't get service and then have to come deep to defend. Tufan looked like he could have stayed on, and should have. Allahyar is plugging a gap at wb, which is great in a team player sort of way, but he really needs to be in an advanced position (captain obvious)
Very lucky point - thanks mainly to Ingram. Brady was the best player on the field. Seri was too slow - caught in possession numerous times. How we missed Honeyman !! We need to stop this playing out from the back.. It continually get us into trouble. Norwich will be a real test.
I quite enjoyed the first half and thought it was pretty even, but we didn’t turn up for the second and ended up doing well to hang on for the draw. I thought Shota picked a good team from the players available and other than being a bit surprised about Covil coming on, I thought the substitutions made sense as well. It’s a work in progress and so far so good.
dunno how we let preston sign brady and we may not have played too well but as some have alluded too last season and under mcann especially, we'd of got thumped
Why do we have Ingram tapping it to a player on the penalty spot with at least 2 opponents ready for it, not even mixing it up, or a player running back to receive it, it’s absolutely ridiculous!
