That’s a fare assessment but we have signed new players (supposedly better) but on todays performance we looked like we did last season. The two forwards is the position acun wouldn’t take risks on, they look miles away from a partnership that will fire us towards the playoffs. They both need to play at bratford
I’d be shocked if we didn’t sign: 1. a ball-winning midfielder 2. a wing-back or even two of them 3. a number 10
People are nervous, accustomed to disappointments and false dawns. A real benchmark will come for us against Norwich.
They didn't look it today your right, but first game they have played together and it was never going to instantly click. I think once everyone's fit and the windows shut/we have our final squad, they won't play up top just those 2 together either. I agree re Bradford, first 11 should play and carry on building the understanding etc
But they’ve only played two competitive games, you can’t expect a strike partner ship to just kick in?
There was not a lot of 'attacking intent' second half but PNE are a good Championship side who could be around the top at the end of the season. We may have one or two more additions to a good squad of players already assembled here. I, for one, have confidence in the new management/coaching.
They didn’t look it as a partnership or indidually over the last 2 games. We was all worried about tufan and he’s been decent over the first two games
Tetteh and Oscar didn’t play badly. I think they played how you would expect two strikers playing their first away game in the Championship. Neither really asserted their authority and were kept quiet by a seasoned Championship defence. I don’t think 2 target men works anyway. It should be Allahyar and one of them next to him.
why does the report in the hdf say that allahyar was played as a wing-back? does b.cooper not understand the old terminology of forwards, backs, and half-backs? how was allahyar anyything other than a wing-half or even a winger? was he actually a back of any kind?
Yep, if we are persisting with that formation we need creativity somewhere. If it’s not in the middle we need wing backs which would mean needing a proper bully midfielder
4 points from two games is excellent. Draw your away games and win your home games, that’s how you get promotion (or at least try to). There’s some synergy to be built, but that will come with games. I said last week that I’d play the first team again against Bradford, haven’t changed my mind. Preston’s team have played together for a fair while, you could see they had that communication and vision. Our lads are still getting to know each other. Ideally you want a squad that can play well and then new signings can just slot in (like Brady did for them today). Overall we’ve done well to get a point today, to have almost a brand new squad and to have four points is very impressive.
It was a bit of a mess wasn't it, one could even call it a clusterfuck. We're crying out for a LWB, Allayhar does he best but the poor kid has no left foot. Coyle's a solid RB but certainly not a RWB. The midfield went AWOL for periods of the game again. Seri floated around and offered less of an outlet to the back 3. Slater's a deputy to the ball winner we need to bring in.
I agree with the notion of playing them at Bradford to help them gel, but the risk is over tiring them at this stage. Some aren't looking match fit yet and we've got 5 more league matches to play yet in August. So, on that basis, I'd rotate for the cup match.
"Happy with a point". "First half was an even game but we didn't play at all 2nd half." "Pleased with good defensive stuff, we have to work on the offensive side". Shota Arveladze
