Tufan - Took half an hour or so to find his way into the game, but he really started to make himself available and became what we've been missing between deep mid and the forwards. Allahyar - Constantly trying to make things happen and did a brilliant job positioned so much deeper than he'd have been used to. I get the impression he'll do anything for us. Seri - Orchestrated us playing out from the back and keeping the ball at feet, gave us options and kept us composed and assured in the middle of the pitch. Honourable mentions... Ingram - Steady hands, great save at the start before we got going properly. Docherty - Gave them something to think about once he came on and made some good runs forwards. Tetteh - Made some brilliant runs and looks like he'll bag some for us this season. Oscar - First touch will hopefully improve, he was unlucky with how the ball fell for him on a few occasions in front of goal, but was part of some good attacking play. Coyle - End product will hopefully improve while we're playing this formation, but he was adventurous enough going forward to allow us to have options.
Tufan. The boo boys can **** off. Forget the shot that hit the post or the superb pen, the moment for me was in the second half when he tracked back and tackled the Bristol player at the touchline in our own half and then pinged the ball over to the opposite wing. He will get better for us as the season goes on. Allahyar. He's going to be a super star. Workrate, ability, skill and end product, all when playing out of position. Seri. Absolute baller. Contrary to the belief of some on here, living proof that you don't have to be 6 foot 3 to play in midfield.
Allahyar... I loved the aggression and the skill. For sure he'll he get a few yellows and possibly a red this season, but they will know he's there. Exciting to watch and he has that star quality. Seri... there were times when I was thinking 'why aren't you passing the ball to Seri?' There were times I thought '****' he'll lose the ball. Then I see the 'Huddlestone' passes, and the desire to want the ball and the link up play etc and I think yes am I really looking forward to watching you this season! Tufan... yep he's a tad overweight for a pro footballer, yep he lacks a bit of pace... but get him right and he'll scare the **** out of defences. Clearly loves a challenge (like Allahyar) and again exciting to watch. Penalty? Never a doubt. Honourable mentions for all the other players especially Captain Coyle! I don't want to get too excited over one game, and I know there's players to come in and signings that need to be made etc... however, something's changed, it ain't perfect, but I like it!
I forgot about that tracking back challenge. I loved that. There's been a lot of times in our last two Championship seasons where it's felt like the opposition has bullied us, made us feel small and inferior, particularly at our ground. That moment was a real **** you and your breakaway, I'm bigger and better than you and I'm having this ball. From a player who we keep being told won't be fit enough or interested enough. Lovely stuff.
Lack of experience on the defensive end...he is not a defender nor a wingback. Bit harsh to give any sort of criticism on his defensive qualities.
Not harsh when that's the role he played. It's not even a criticism it's just an observation. He played out of position, tried hard, and was solid, but it's not a long term solution and that's no fault of his.
Strange bow to draw but I suspect that's exactly what would be done in the same manner. "Played well, gave a really good account of himself, but he's not a striker so shouldn't be played there long term"
He criticised a strikers defending when played completely out of position. Which I think is harsh. Is this you just arguing with anything? You have form.
Because his defending wasn't up to scratch. I'm not quite sure what point you're making. If Ally played in goal should we praise his effort even if he let in 5 just because it's not his normal position? Arguing with anything? You're the one that started the argument. . The guy you responded to wasn't even criticising Ally he was praising him for his effort despite playing out of position. You've made an argument up out of thin air.
