cheers again RTB... first game so no 'real' form to go off, apparently they were decent last season so the question is 'can they keep it going?' lads should be well up for it, more so if a couple of new faces are on the verge of signing (or old ones) as it might give them something to prove they are worthy of a start next game, although they should really feel like that every game. i also presume AN has done his usual ground work and as we saw so many times he knows just how to set his team up even if, at times, we were wondering wtf he was playing at yet he proved us wrong every time, we had way more than our fair share of mistakes in pre-season so i am hoping they got them all out of the way before the real stuff starts.
Great thread and a great start to the season. No reason we can't win the game, we have an unbeaten run, momentum and a manager who gets most things right ... ... I'm expecting a clean sheet and a couple of goals with fantastic support. Ha’way the Lads!!!
Home win, it won’t be easy but we need to make a statement for the season ahead. A draw isn’t disastrous but you can bet your bottom dollar the manager, players and owners aren’t thinking mid table like some of the supporters.
Great thread to set the scene RTB , a place for Diamond on the bench with one less midfield option might be an alternative, but your team will do me. Coventry were one of the best sides to visit the SoL in L1 days, the 3-4 game being a stand out, as this one could well be, with hopefully the result reversed. Having said that I would happily settle for a 1-0 or even 1-1 OaU. Up -date Looks like Simms might be on the bench now.
He did have his moments, especially late on in games. Coventry were superb that day mind, but I dont expect Sunday to be as easy for them.
Cheers RTB, been looking daily for this all week , still buzzing from Wembley and I think we will see a completely different Sunderland performance than the kick around 70% displays of pre season. I would love us to win, but I have gone for a draw, 1-1 or even 2-2, hope the lads prove me wrong, buzzing for this, Haway, Haway, Haway
Cheers RTB, great to have the season and your threads back. I will have to find a London pub for this one, as have an invite for the lasses final. Your team looks right to me. We obviously now have Simms for the bench too. Like others I think this is a tough opener. I had hoped their centre forward would have been gone by now but hey ho, Ballard looks ready for anyone to me. I have a feeling the home crowd will drive these lads on. We have lads who love the big stage, like Roberts, and can see him turning it on. Going for a 3-2 win, in a great footballing game, with Alex's subs making the difference - Embo to get the winner in the last 15 minutes. Long season ahead, but will be fun.
I hope Gyokeres doesn’t get a sniff but the odds can’t be knocked for the 2 main goal threats and cards are always a possibility.
That 4-5 game was ridiculous. From the 1st min it was obvious we were overrun in midfield but Jack Ross did nothing about it. Refused to change it at half time and settle for a point (which is unusual for him) and all his subs were attacking. I'm all for trying to win a game, but it was obvious from the 1st whistle that we weren't on the ball and he should have changed it. Left Catts on the bench for the whole game when his presence in midfield woul have made a world of difference McLaughlin O'Nien Flanagan Baldwin Oviedo Honeyman Leadbitter Power Morgan Wyke Grigg http://thestatcat.co.uk/Match.aspx?MatchID=6893&LU=S&LUID=143
