I'm sure there is still sexism towards women's football but there is online trolling towards the men's game too. Some of what has been said will have used sexist language because that is the easiest way to get a reaction (which is what the trolls want) rather than because they genuinely feel that way. Some of it won't have been sexist though. There was a woman on Twitter the other day saying that the misspelling of Fran Kirby's name as Frank Kirby on a Sky Sports News on screen caption was 'everyday sexism'. The lad who wrote the caption came on Twitter to apologise and to explain that it had been a genuine mistake, a typo, and that it wasn't sexist at all. Despite his explanation/apology and loads of people pointing out to her that it was a mistake, she insisted on claiming that it was 'everyday sexism'. Unfortunately, that's the climate we live in where people with a drum to beat will look for even the most tenuous thing to 'prove' that what they believe is accurate. Despite the fact that that kind of attitude actually drives moderate people away from their cause rather than towards it. I missed the game last night as I had other commitments but I'm glad that for a little while people were able to enjoy it for what it was- a group of talented footballers representing England at an international tournament.
Ian Dark listed four players on the pitch last night who attended uni at the University of North Carolina. For anyone with daughters interested in football, plenty of footy scholarships are available in the US. Not so much on the men's side.
That article says nothing even remotely close to "you have to watch women's football or you're sexist" . It's about research which found that female footballers are regularly subjected to ridicule, objectification, and discrimination. Similarly, saying someone is "half a fan" is nowhere near to calling them sexist.
Also, this is a truly pathetic attitude. Thankfully, it's almost exclusively found in the older generation, and will likely naturally die out within the next 30 years or so as people become more educated.
Hope so mate. Been invited as somebody who does a bit of coaching for rhe FA. Also my old mentor in coaching terms is a highly regarded womens coach. My conundrum is a family holidays starts Monday, so a few travel issues to sort. Keen to go though, and looks like I will be there
France were in mess before the tournament apparently. Lots of arguing within the squad, a bit like Holland used to do in the men's game. Looks like they have sorted that out. It would be class to beat Germany at Wembley, lets ****ing have it!
What I am hoping for mate. Hard to see the momentum stopping for me. The links to us is marvellous as well. Magic summer if we do it.
