No, Ozil turned down a pay cut during the pandemic. Or, he criticised China's treatment of Uighur Muslims in China. One of those two.
The China-Uyghur thing was rumoured to be the reason for him being shunned at Arsenal, not Fenerbahçe. Idk why he was put on the naughty step at Fener, nor why Tufan was too.
That’s what I always thought it was. Ozil had his contract terminated at his last 2 clubs. Tufan seemingly given up pro football for the last year
Really? Thought we paid a fee for him? If Watford had stayed up, they would have been obliged to pay 6m for him, on top of the loan fee they paid for that season. He's had a loan terminated by a club who'd had 3 managers in half a season and was a relegation basket case. Played regularly for Fenerbache the previous season and a regular for turkey until he got injured last November.
Tufan was playing regularly for Fenerbache before he was suspended by them at the end of March. It’s not surprising that his fitness has suffered since then because he wouldn’t have been training with the first team and probably had no access to fitness/dietary facilities. Watch the highlights of Norway v Turkey in March last year to see what he can do. Let’s give him a chance to get up to speed with the Championship and if he still can’t hack it then we can put it down to one of Acun’s vanity projects.
I want him to prove me wrong immensely. I cant wait for him to score and assist on saturday and you all to remind me of my meltdown about him this week. Bring it on!
The overreaction in the City fanbase over pre season has been insane. Pre season is usually fairly similar, it's a big chance for youngsters to impress so they give it a right go and fringe players to either put themselves in the shop window or get a more regular place in the side. The starters generally go through the motions, make sure they're fit but don't go OTT as they know they'll be starting. It's been no different for us. From the Marbella Trip those that impressed according to Baz where Covil, A Smith, Cannon, Docherty and Williams. Shock horror they're all youngsters/fringe players. It's been a tough pre season but it's completely meaningless and thankfully the real stuff starts on Saturday. I mean Derby lost to Alfreton tonight, it's not uncommon for these weird results to pop up
