You'd have to think we are confident of getting one to complete the deal and pay the money and announce it. It's not like Man United years ago where we can send them to Belgium for three years on loan. Not that that would even work anymore

From my school boy French I think he means:

One chapter ends, but I will always remember it.

Thanks for helping me to grow and become the player and the person I am.

He'll 100% get one. As dumb as it is to now need a work permit for a kid from Bordeaux, the WP rules are pretty straight-forward now, and if you play the majority of games for a team in a top five league, you're basically nailed-on.

I'm being overly sensitive but everything Ive seen quoted has the scent of 'this is a stepping stone, don't get used to me being around'.

Realistically, that's the case for any player who ultimately proves to be above our station. The question becomes whether we can raise our station over time to the extent that fewer players see the need to leave; Leicester still has had to sell players, but they were able to successfully extend the stays of many of their best because what previously would have been considered steps up started looking more like lateral moves.

Isn't that what the money ball system is all about? Buy them young and cheap then sell on for a big profit which is re-invested back into the team.

I could be wrong but I don’t think the ultimate career ambition of Parisian, French-Senegalese Gen Z footballers is to play for Southampton forever.

Yeah, definitely. But so long as he steps through like Sadio Mane did, and not like Van Dijk, I’m reconciled to that.

<laugh> That wouldn’t even have been my ambition, and I went to school across the road from The Dell. Would not have turned down a spell in Italy, even if Laurie Mac had begged me to stay. Not that he ever knew who I was…

Yeah, but you don’t get to step to the next stone unless you play really, really well. Otherwise you end up as Mario Lemina.

We have to enjoy these young players while they are with us, look how Brentford have developed utilising young relatively unknown players and generating large sums that keep the club going

i was just a little unprepared for ‘Im super ambitious and I’ll be off winning trophies galore before too long’ as the opening statement. Usually they wait until the ink is dry on the contract!!

Better start scoring early and keep them rolling in Sekou.

Lets never forget Mario, creator of Lem’s Life on youtube. His greatest achievement.

I don't care that they leave.

I consider myself lucky that I managed to spend a few years watching one of the better defenders on the planet in VVD

I'm also blessed to have seen one of the most thrilling attackers in football in the form of
    Sadio Mane.

If we could do more of them, if be more than content.

Exactly this. The club have stated, more than once, that the business model is to buy players in the first years of their professional careers and offer them a pathway to a bigger club if they develop as well as expected. This is obviously good for them, and it’s also good for us as we not only get the benefit of their skills, but also make a potentially huge profit. I don’t understand why people find this a difficult concept.

If we are in a position where our players are back to being linked with who they were in the past then it means we are doing well again

We lost Mane and VVD to Liverpool. If we end up with Liverpool wanting to sign Mara and ABK then things have gone well. Similar if Man City/Chelsea want to activate the buy backs. If Lavia, Bazunu and Tino have become 40m players then we will be doing well. If it somehow all happens at once (far from a guarantee) then we will be pushing very high indeed
