Obviously the main topic of discussion on Day 1 of Glorious Goodwood will be Dettori being jocked off Stradivarius. I have to say that I cannot blame the owner as Dettori rode the same bad race on his horse two years on the trot in the Ascot Gold Cup. He gave it too much to do in 2021 and repeated the trick in 2022. I think that we can be reasonably certain that Trueshan will be withdrawn unless the heavens open and the Ascot winner Kyprios, four years the junior of the Gosden star, will be the one to beat. There is a fascinating renewal of the Lennox Stakes before that with last year’s winner returning as well as dual winner Sir Dancealot. The eight year old has been off the track for two years but returned with a good second in a Pontefract handicap. Whilst he likes the race and the track, it is hard to see him finding enough to trouble a few of these. Happy Power normally runs well at Goodwood but he wins very infrequently – one win since 2020 – and he was only third last year. Of the three year olds, I can really only make a good case for one of them: Gimcrack winner Lusail. He was narrowly beaten in the St James’s Palace and was a fair third in the Prix Jean Prat after finishing sixth in the Guineas, so he should go close today. The favourite Sacred dropped to six at Royal Ascot and was a respectable fifth making her reappearance in the Platinum Jubilee, where she had better track position than race-fit Kinross, last year’s winner of this who should go well again but is short in the betting because of stable form. I backed Laneqash at Haydock when he was just held at bay by POGO (with Kinross third and Happy Power sixth) and then he ran like a drain as POGO won again at Newmarket (Ever Given third). So this time I am putting the hex on Charlie Hills’ six year old chasing the hat-trick.
6.40 Galway I think ado mc Guinness will have Spanish trot set a strong pace and win it with his outsider Bowerman who is very well handicapped.just my thoughts it worked last year.
I think Sir Dancealot 3.00 Good E/W has an outsider’s chance given that he has won this twice in the past.
Fancy Sandrine today in the Lennox stakes. She ran a really good race in the Falmouth and I think 7f will be much more to her liking. I see QM doesn't mention her.
Think I'll have a piece of that too, Bustino. Backed her LTO and I thought she ran a very good race. Agree, decent chance in this event.
Can't be sure, not really a fish and chip place. I've had braised liver and also belly of pork when I've eaten there.
The Vintage Stakes winner could be useful. Amazing how Oasis Dream is getting these good 2yos year after year. Marbaan is well related. His 3rd dam won the Irish 1000G and her 4th dam is a half-sister to a very good horse called Timber Country, who won a Breeder's Cup Juvenile and the Preakness.
Gee whiz, what a smashing win for Sandrine. Thank you vm, Bustino; have been very busy today and most certainly would have missed her if I had not read your post. Thanks again. Did you notice that David Probert got about 4-winners at Ffos Las yesterday? Top jockey and top combination with the Andrew Balding stable.
Well done. I felt the Falmouth was a very instructive race. The winner that day set a real pace and I feel won the race because she not only stayed 8f, she probably would stay 9f easily. Inspiral lost the race, for certain, by doing incredible sectional times mid-race. She had nothing left against a horse that stayed on. Sandrine looked to be the winner 2f out, yet didn't quite get home. 7f looked ideal.
I can see a couple of these market leaders in the G. Cup blowing out. So if I was there I'd have a place bet on the filly. As I'm not, it's EW on Princess Zoe.
Well done of finding the winner. True I did not mention her specifically. The only three year old I could make a case for, as I stated, was colt Lusail. I only mentioned Ever Given because it was third behind Pogo at Newmarket. As far as the three year old fillies are concerned I currently hold them in little regard. Sandrine was all the rage as a juvenile until she was beaten in the Lowther as favourite and had not won since.
