It didn’t seem to have enough red when I was watching the stream of the friendly the other day. But that was appalling stream quality to be fair ?
Interesting move to play Stuey as an out and out attacker. I know Ralph gets a bit of criticism for playing people out of their traditional position but he has had a fair amount of success in this area. I always had doubts about Valery as RB but he looks immense as a CB. KWP looks just as good as RB or LB and Djenpo as a LWB has been pretty impressive to say the least.
That is all well and good. But in this case playing our best 10 out of position is a questionable choice. KWP was tried elsewhere as we had a very good player in his position. Djenepo is lwb due to lack of options. Valery has been impressive
KWP has always played both sides, he featured at LB for Spurs and England u21 I believe… he’s such a gifted player isn’t he?! Not sure I agree about the Djenepo thing being a success. I’d sell him as soon as possible and get someone in who can retain the ball and pass tbh.
I'm usually in the "it has to be stripes" camp but as an alternative, I don't mind this one. I get what you are saying about not enough red though. I guess the back is all white?
I've not seen any of the games but Ralph seems to be anticipating a very tough start to the season and focusing on getting a defense that doesn't ship goals. Makes total sense to me, there aren't likely to be many points in out opening run of fixtures and the odd 0-0 will be welcome. Hopefully we see some attacking reinforcements coming soon.
We don’t sign many Italians, which is a shame because if you put ‘Chicken’ before any Italian football players name, it sounds like quite a nice dinner. Chicken Locatelli, Chicken Tonali, Chicken Bonucci, Chicken Verratti…
Conte worked a marvelous season out of a disaster with a 3-4-3 averaging a bit over a goal a game conceded on average I think. If we can fashion a front 3 maybe with Aribo and Stuey in behind the striker we could have a decent line-up. I still don't feel like we have a striker capable of being a solo up front, it will be so hard on a 19yr old coming into the ELP to play that role, It certainly ruined Brojas end to the season. Che would be the most likely one for that role, strong, good on the ball, able to spot movement. Anyway, we will need a solution as a 0-0 at Spurs would be a great start but home against Leeds, not so much! Edit - Kasper Dolberg can play lone striker in a 4-3-3 apparently...
Hasenhuttl on Oriol Romeu: “I think as a lonely six, it's always a little difficult because he's not such a holding midfielder. I know he's not the quickest in this position but he knows how to score goals in this [more advanced] area.” Is anyone else a bit worried that Ralph has gone totally mental?
