I think pace is his main attribute… saw some interview with him where he discussed his approach to defending, he kind of implied he was never going to get done for pace. No doubt we’ll see that put to the test

Didn’t see it but maybe the reason klich was last man is he was on the pitch and Adams wasn’t?

A word of warning if you partake in the BBC Quiz of the Week.

Make sure you get a decent score otherwise who knows what might happen!!!

Given that greenwood and bate have failed to impress what do we do now. Bate not even there and greenwood looked very average.

He may have done well today but I would really worry about struijk as cover at left back. He has the turning circle of a super-tanker. His confidence was shot last season so playing him out of position to get roasted by PL wide men wouldn’t be ideal for club or player.

I think there’s a player in hjelde and he’s played left back in Scotland although he’s more a cb. When he played lb last year he was ok defensively but his distribution was poor. Just a kid still… I’m hoping vic gets his cheque book out, so we have an ‘alternative’ to firpo.

The changes are inevitable in pre-season friendlies, they often just allocate minutes off a spreadsheet to get everyone up to match speed.

Be nice to see us looking brilliant obviously but there’s no points given out in friendlies.

    Only seen 10 minute highlights.

Roca looks a player. Aaronson looks a headless chicken. Rodrigo is still **** (did he shove Joffy away whilst celebrating his goal?). Kristensen looks the better signing of the lot.

Pass of the day looked to be Greenwood through to Joffy.

    Defence is ****.

Yeah, you've seen more of him. I've only seen highlights of the games so far.

I'm reserving (final) judgement on the newbies until I've seen them play a few games.

Fair enough Emu, I like his workrate and link up play. I only saw the last 20 mins of the Rhinos against the scum and anyone tuning in late would have thought that they were the top side.

I’ve only seen highlights, sorry to say Jesse sacked before the World Cup and this lot battling relegation the entire season.

I disagree with anyone who believes any of the new signings are better than Phillips and Raphinha. If injuries were not an issue we have a worse starting 11 this season but more depth.

I think the highs and lows won't be as extreme under Marsch. The football won't be as open or as entertaining.

I share your concerns on quality. Phillips will be a huge miss but he hardly played last season and even when he did he was below par. Obviously a player of Raphinha's ability will be missed. That's where Sinisterra or James need to up their game. I'm not sure they can.

The good news is that we were so weak in midfield last season. Although none are of the Phillips quality, at least we have Roca, Adams, Aaronson coming in which is an improvement on Roberts, Rodrigo and Klich not to mention the likes of Koch and Bate having to play games in there. With Phillips not playing much last season, I reckon we are stronger in there from last season.

We had no focal point up top without Paddy. We now have Paddy and hopefully another one coming in. Greenwood and Gelhardt look stronger too. Hopefully we will be much stronger up front and this balances the team.

The new system isn't necessarily for me. It looks easy to bypass and we look in trouble when we lose possession. The 4-2-2-2 won't work in the PL so I am hoping for a 4-2-3-1 type system or something a bit more fluid. Teams are too well organised and there are no easy pickings. The double pivot makes us stronger defensively and Roca looks like he can ping a ball.

Overall I'm very much nervously waiting to see how we do. It genuinely could go either way. Hopefully the injury count is kinder to us this year.

has anyone said the new signings are individually better than kp and raph? Think the consensus is stronger squad (on paper) and jury out on starting 11… depends how many of the newbies are auto first choice.

losing the 2 best players from a side that just survived relegation was always going to mean avoiding the drop this season was the realistic target.

as for making predictions from watching a few highlights of a pre-season friendly? You may well be proved correct but it’s not exactly consistent with your resolution to give marsch a clean slate this season before sharpening the blades fella :emoticon-0105-wink:<cheers>

at least wait until we get mullered by wolves <laugh>

No predictions here. There’s no point. Everyone trying to compare this seasons squad to last one. It’ll only take two or three more injuries to unbalance the whole thing and then start the same whinge fest as last season about injuries. Let’s just hope Marsch is a luckier manager than Bielsa

    A few ;)

We all have differing opinions mate but let’s be honest, you’ve always disliked Philips from day one, that’s fine, I’m not saying your opinion doesn’t count but I’ve never understood the hate

Jeez shaks...what the **** does it matter where a player is from ?

Plus Raphinha did the business for us at the end of the season and kept us up. The skill to set Joffy up against Norwich and then winning & scoring the penalty against Brentford was top class. Not only that but we've now made a nice £30M profit on the lad so all's good as far as I can see.
