Ah ok I’m fine with general pessimism. It’s in my DNA. I thought you’d suddenly joined the glass half empty, and slightly cracked, crowd due to one game …and that’s just not on.
Wasn't sure when I first saw the shirt, but full kit looks retro as ****. 80s burnt orange. Either that or John Eyre left it out in the sun too long yesterday.
Love the away kit and even like the shorts, bit weird having a new kit and half the team being new as well!
Our problem last season, quite consistently, was that we didn't create anywhere near enough chances. We tried to play out from the back a lot and we were generally good at it in our own half but we seemed to run out of space very easily as we moved up the pitch, and attacks came to nothing much too often. Tonight of course was a friendly against a very good side, so the usual caveats apply to taking anything too serious from it, but we did seem to have that same old issue. Losing 4-0 to Leicester in a friendly isn't particularly a cause for alarm, but we didn't create a chance or even come close to creating one. Not sure we even touched the ball inside their box. It does make me wonder whether it could continue to be an issue again this season. Oscar and Allahyar both looked good up there on the brief occasions that the ball was anywhere near them, but you got the feeling that it didn't matter how good they could be, they just weren't seeing anywhere near enough of the ball. This was a familiar problem last season. Perhaps players like Sinik and the other rumoured ones will help bridge that gap to the attack, or perhaps it was just a one-off due to playing such a superior team and coincidentally played out the same way as our limited side did so often last season. I think it's something to keep an eye on though.
Yep this, all well and good bringing in a striker like Oscar but he’s not gonna score many if we play like that. Although I feel as he gets sharper it’ll improve. He impressed me tonight, winning the ball back for us. Good first touch just a few loose passes. Look forward to him scoring 3 past Sandy row on saturday
I liked that he got into those battles and every time he won the ball or won a free kick, sometimes both. The polar opposite of watching Eaves do that job for the last few years. There's a real art to getting stuck in while staying on the refs good side. Honeyman had it down to a tee. Some players really lack it.
You mean you didn't enjoy watching Eaves constantly foul the defender and then each time look completely shocked
Just Peterborough for me. **** getting up early for Cambridge after getting back late from the cricket in Manchester on Friday
Plenty might be watching it on a live stream, like tonight. Friendlies away are not for me, was there tonight and enjoyed the first half, liked the new players until there heads went down but not so keen on our formation if we had one, and I thought our crowd was good too until that second goal took a cruel deflection and put the game beyond us. Not keen on the kit either but that's not important. Even I applauded the 4th goal and it could have been six, plus it must be said that Maddison was a different class tonight. All in all, the way Leicester stepped up a gear and dominated the second half ruined it for me and the reality struck home. We have a lot to do and judging by the mass exodus on 80mins I'm doubting if some of our fans have the stomach for it. We need a good start. We don't need a second half display and result like tonight against Bristol City.
Really good to see a fantastic turnout for a friendly. the atmosphere was good and nice to be back at the MKM. Seri has real quality, Slater is a bargain and turning into a very good player. Lesta showed the gulf of class between a good EPL side and the Championship, however plenty of positives, the new players are just settling in and will get better once they get a run of games under their belt.
Not one to judge just wondered if there were any doing both. Ive finally managed to secure Saturday’s off work until I return to university in September so making the most of it. Definitely need a good start like you say, just feel we sometimes get the ball forward too slow. All 3 of those midfielders play the same style of passes. Predominately sideways, hopefully against similar opposition we’ll see more but that link between the front and back of the side was definitely lacking. (Honeyman role). Not a fan of 5-3-2 either, both striker we had on the pitch needed service and had too much creative burden placed on themselves as wing backs seemed nervous to leave our own half at times. Hate seeing us lose regardless of the competitive nature of the game. Good crowd though, although the exodus on 75th minute wasn’t great!
If we want to create chances playing this formation we need our wing backs to cross the halfway line. Elmo and Brady whipping crosses in for Estupinan would see him net 30 a season. Coyle might get him 2
Agree with all of that. As Shota already knows the Championship is relentless and it starts in 10 days, I just hope he has them ready, fit, and chomping at the bit for Bristol City because Nigel Pearson is no mug and this new City team desperately need a good start to the season.
