Has anyone actually checked Paddy's stats?

He made a mistake going to Chelsea and his loans to Burnley and Palace were a waste of time but when he was played by Managers he scored consistently. He was good for at least 1 in 3 games and often 1 in 2.
That's in the Championship and the PL.
If you were offered a striker who had a history of 1 in 3 at the very top level would you be interested.
Not only that but he gives loads more to the team including assists.
I'm defending him because he has been good for us and doesn't deserve the **** he's getting.
    The criticisms are nonsense.
    We missed him last year.

To criticize a player for how much he earns and for catching Covid is ridiculous. Listen to yourselves ffs!

I’ve looked at his stats a fair bit blono and there are two sides to it. His record for us in the championship was no better than kemar roofe’s, (when we actually started playing roofe as a striker) - worse if you consider his xg in our promotion year where the volume of clear chances missed could genuinely have cost us promotion.

But he proved a lot of us wrong (me included) with that first season in the Prem, and that counts for a lot as ability to deliver at the highest level is a rare commodity. He tends to score some very good goals but miss the instinctive/poacher ones. No player wants to be injured so criticising players for being ‘sick notes’ is just unfair. It is valid when assessing their value to the team though. Take forshaw. Decent link player when fit but you can’t count on him in your squad as back up when there is a very good chance he will be on the treatment table when needed.

So paddy absolutely doesn’t deserve flak and of course we missed him hugely last year but the club is right to be eyeing up serious competition/cover in my view.

I've always liked having two frontmen, an out and out striker and one who was a great link up man for the out and out striker. Bamford IMO would suit playing with a natural goal scorer. It might take some of the pressure off him(Bamford), which may help him score more. We certainly can't sell him now because (as stated by other posters) we've no other ones, a part from Joffy(injured) to replace him. The other thing I want to say is that just because you don't agree with a fellow posters opinion, it doesn't make that posters opinion stupid or any less valued as yours.<ok>

Surely and discussion is kind of irrelevant anyway. I doubt anyone would buy him after the past seasons injuries he’s had. It’s ok for us Leeds fans to look back at his achievements two seasons back and sing his praises then, and rightly so, but I sincerely doubt any pl club would be looking in his direction

Wow, I've never seen a player suger coated as much. Devils advacate; since 2015, he went three seasons without scoring, then had a one in 4 ratio at Boro, before going to Leeds where his stats have improved to slightly better than 1 in 3.

He had one exceptional season in the Prem 20/21 and has not scored in 2022, having been injured for most of it.

I agree about having two front men. Hopefully when Marsch sorts out his tactics, the inverted wingers will actually become second strikers.

he seems to like 4222 or 4231 so in theory its two strikers or 1 with a central AM/10 but given the 'fluidity' of formations, i'm not sure if anyone is able to actually notice the difference <laugh>

Nice to see Blono take the Bamford haters to task for some of their ridiculous statements. Good lad!

But the same goes for Forshaw. One major hip injury. Very unusual. Also unusual to be out for so long with ANY injury. Comeback was great, initially, but as often happens - nay, it's almost a certainty - that when a player is out so long, he'll pick up niggling injuries for a spell after recovering from the major injury. And so it came to pass. But I bet you he's back to 'normal' now.

Oh, nearly forgot - he's 30 now. Perhaps we should take him to the knackers yard & make him into sausages? Some would be thrilled at the prospect, no doubt! Forshaw is nailed on to go into coaching, & was encouraged by Bielsa to do so. Must have something, eh? I have the feeling he'll retire whilst still at Leeds, unless he gets a player/manager- type job to lure him away. Or our management are stupid enough to listen to our cadre of 'experts' on here.

he's a good footballer, a nice guy and a good influencer around the team

his injury record is terrible though WJ - throughout the latter part of his career, he had ongoing calf problems before the ongoing hip problems. The last one was a fractured knee cap, so not really a niggle!

Tbh, I can't remember the calf injuries. Not disputing it - just can't remember (memory problems under investigation). But you can't label him as a sick note because some basturd fractured his knee cap, can you? Agree that he appears to be a nice guy - it's the Scouse accent that grates on me. :D

He missed plenty of games to injury in the seasons before he came to us... had an underlying calf problem when we signed him... but we signed him anyway... and it then flared up. He's been really unlucky, these guys hate being injured, but it just seems to be one thing after another. The basturd that fractured his kneecap was a team-mate in training. Probably an 'under-training' issue <laugh>
